@Frank Apisa,
Quote:

What “damage” specifically, has he done?

It's not just H2O - he's just incompetent AND talkative.

It's been my experience that most Republicans have a very hard time answering this question. I quizzed my Conservative family members on this over Christmas; none were able to articulate a real argument about things he has done that have damaged our nation. The best criticisms about him that they presented, were actually ones from the LEFT - that he hadn't done enough to turn the recession around.

They can't respond cogently, b/c their favorite arguments don't work. They can't blame him for raising taxes, as he actually lowered them. They can't blame him for the Auto Bailouts, as 1)they started under Bush in 2008 and 2) they actually worked out pretty well. Can't call him soft on foreign policy, he's managed to wind down Iraq, we won a war in Libya with no real losses, killed Bin Laden and decimated AQ. Can't really even blame him for Obamacare, b/c EVERY conservative I've ever spoken to WANTS almost every feature of the ACA to remain intact, other than the mandate. The sane ones realize that it's never going to be repealed.

What we end up seeing are second-tier complaints: he spends too much, too many new regulations, he's a 'socialist' - never mind the fact that he's never done a single socialist thing, ever - he apologizes for America, et cetera. Character attacks seem to rule the day, as their nebulous nature allows them to be essentially irrefutable by facts and logic.

Questions like yours to the waterboy are extremely frustrating to them, as they have a very difficult time expressing the large amount of antipathy they have in their hearts for the guy. I'm sure you can guess at some of the motivation behind the underlying emotion, though - one, a certain amount of latent racism and xenophobia; and two, an anger over the fact that he managed to outmaneuver the GOP time and time again over the last three years (though not as often as I would have liked).

@Cycloptichorn,
In America, Obama's policies have caused unemployment to start coming down. In the UK, Cameron's Tory policies have meant that unemployment is still going up.

@izzythepush,
I don't like the Conservatives, never have but I don't think the UK, Ireland or Europe in general are helped by the self centred policies being pursued by Merkozy and the ECB. It's a shame that the UK isn't at the heart of things as at least the UK would have some clout unlike the disaster that is Ireland.

@eurocelticyankee,
Cameron is too busy playing to the lunatic little England fringe of the party to be able to engage seriously with Europe. After all the tabloid hullaballo over his 'triumph' in using the veto and completely isolating the UK, I was reminded of the celebratory way Chamberlain was received with his promises of 'Peace in our time.'

@izzythepush,
It didn't seem to go down to well with Tricky Nicky either or it did and then it didn't.
Watching it all gives me a headache I'd rather watch something that gives me a hardon.

I appreciate the comments directed to me from:

Izzy: Too bad H2O starts the discussion then won’t pursue it. He might have something to contribute, but apparently we will never know.

Region Philbis: Yup, I am trying to get away from all the name calling; yelling; and screaming…and stick to the arguments. But I promise I won’t get too warm and fuzzy!

Eurocelticyankee: Thanks for the comments. I HOPE I am wrong also…but the anger from the far left toward Obama seems overwhelming at times. Particularly in discussions at other sites. We’ll see.

Cyclop: They cannot come up with good examples of “the damage Obama has done”…because the damage has been done mostly by conservatives. He has been trying to deal with it…NOT an easy task. Fact is, America has been in the grips of American conservatism essentially since the end of the LBJ administration. Even the “Democratic” presidents before Obama have come from conservative states; Georgia and Arkansas. They (the conservatives) have pretty much set the agenda for the last four and a half decades…and the question they ought be asking themselves is: Are Americans better off now than 45 years ago?
