One of the most heart-stopping videos i've ever seen was of Clint Eastwood hunting Kodiak in the Aleutian Islands, on a short-lived television series (American Sportsman?). Eastwood explains to the cameraman that he has hit the bear (he was bow hunting, for dog's sake!), but not killed it, and that it won't be safe for them to leave the area without tracking it down. He then opines that it is likely down below in the cane brake by the water (Jesus, you idjit, don't go in there!), and heads that way. Suddenly you hear the roar, the camera man swivels, you see the bear burst out of the cane about 20 feet away, and then you see a sweeping arch of sky, followed by the dirt at the base of the canes. A moment later, the cameraman goes over and picks up the camera, and turns it on Eastwood, who is standing over the Kodiak, bow in hand, looking at the shaft of the arrow sticking out of the bear's mouth.

bears like going through the outer layers of sleeping bags to get to the chewy centers. If youve read Brysons "Walk in the woods" many bear attackees were guilty of keeping snickers bars in their sleeping bags for nightime snacks. duuuh.

I read that book while on vacation in Rangley Maine about 5 years ago and truly enjoyed it. I had a hard time putting the book down.

Great pictures everyone :-D

What is the snake that just doesn't stop bitting? Over and over again. I'd be terrified to walk in the woods, or grass, or swim....

That link was scary. A funnel web spider was the one i was thinking about. It can kill a human in as little as 15 minutes.

These are huntsman - they don't kill ya, but they give you a fright, if you don't like spiders...

If animals do not look upon you as a food, they would not be very aggressive unless you made them mad.
Snakes with venom must be more colorful lest they should be beneath your foot.
