I think the default should be to see everything and then you can personalize down from there. It seems like censoring the view should be a opt-in thing instead of an opt-out.

You tell me, how is this any different?
Spam is junk communication in the attempt to sell you something or rip you off, pushing an idea is not that at all. If you believe in democracy and/or free speech then you need to leave the fanatics alone so long as all they are doing is arguing their ideas. This might make your day less bright, but you need to suck it up and drive on in the name of avoiding oppression of the individual as best as we can manage.

This is not the first time that your priorities have been whack, of course.

Think it comes under the discussed, helpfully or not, here:

@hawkeye10,
I'm not stomping on their right to put that shite on A2K. What I've said is... why should they completely take over someones thread. They already put all those "articles" in one or two threads. Knock yourself out, read what you want, but if I took over one or more of your threads with anti-pedophile publications, I bet you'd be pissed too. Maybe I'll try it and see how you respond.

@Ceili,
Actually I was wondering if Pamela Rosa (White Victims...) & this Tal-whats-it person are one & the same poster?
Their obsessive repetitive posts (the presentation, the content, the mug-shots ...) are remarkably similar, almost identical.

I thumbed-down the White Victims thread long ago, so I never see it any more. But It was annoying to see pretty much the same stuff appear on another thread & commandeer it. Perhaps because lots of other A2Kers, like me, had long stopped paying any attention to the original thread?
In any case, whenever I see a string of those unmistakable posts I automatically vote them down. I don't bother to read them because they are so obviously the same old, same old ...
It's odd, isn't it, that someone would actually spend hours & hours of their time in this way?

@msolga,
It could be two people working together from some white power group or it could be one person however what hit me is the time they are spending with nothing to show for it but the contempt from anyone who read their postings.

One thing the internet is good for it to allow the forming of groups of like minded individuals no matter how rare their share opinion or hate happen to be so why are they not posting on their own little corner of the net?

Well if they are two people, Bill, they obviously trained at the same institute of propaganda. Two identical peas in a pod.
I lean toward the sock puppet theory myself.

I know who you’re talking about and that in my opinion is one hateful person. All this person is doing is looking for a response. It's best to ignore them.

@hawkeye10,
At last count he/she is up to 16 posts in a row in that threat totally off topic. This in uncivilized behavior to be sure... Also unlikely to be successful in winning hearts and minds, so it is not wise.

I am 99% sure that this is a disparaging assumption on your part...I have seen nothing to indicate that this person is not a true believer.

Talk about bad behaviors some idiots on this thread had this one posting of your with a vote down of 5 IE disappearing it but for my one vote up for daring to state that the racists assholes or racist asshole might be true believers.

This is a fine example that Robert censorship by the mob is not a good idea even if emotionally hitting back at these racists by votes downs can feel good.

@BillRM,
Oh Hawkeye now your post that I had refer to is back to neg 6 that mean that 8 repeat 8 persons are of the opinion that your post that the racists might be honest idiots should be censor.

Of course someone could be making up false accounts once more just to vote postings down as how can there be that many idiots/fools on this thread?

I guess in any case we are getting a fine example of how the vote down system can be misused with or without false accounts coming into it.

@BillRM,
I'm a little surprised that Hawk's posting is getting such a thrashing as well. I agree that as hateful as the posting is it is not just a troll looking to get people revved up but someone who really buys into that crap. The reason to allow those types of posts on the board is not so that the larger community can show the posters the errors of their ways (because they will never be convinced), it is to show their targets, potential converts they are searching for online, how silly their arguments are. Now when some impressionable young person hears about these conspiracy theories and looks them up online, they find an A2K thread where all the riduculous statements are debunked along with the racist rants of their authors.

@engineer,
I love the fact that you say the same thing as Hawkeye and you are getting votes up.

This voting system see to be more and more a reflection of how popular you happen to be and have less and less of a connection on the contents of your posts.

At the very least our system god Robert should have the disappearing feature as an op in not as an op out.

Somehow I can not see that too many people would wish idiots to had control over what they can see and read on this system.

@engineer,
It's hard to get a word in edgewise when someone dumps 20+ post in a row. It's not as if it adds to the conversation, it was all cut a paste articles. There is no room for discussion.
Look as I've said.. They already have a couple of threads, they could make more for all I care. I don't have to read them, that is my choice. I'm not affecting your choice by not reading these threads.
I used to belong to abuzz. When I first started the site was moderated and I liked going there. Funding was cut as were the mods and the site went downhill fast Irrelevant posts would go on for ever and any meaningful posts were often lost in muck.
How many times have you watched a newbie come to this site and get jumped on because they are suspected of being a spammer? In many cases it's warranted. Sometimes, it's just a lack of writing skills, whatever. Most of the time, their posts and threads are deleted for your convenience. This place would be a very different place if that sort of thing wasn't moderated out.
What I'm saying is, I shouldn't be able to go onto someone else's thread and flood it with pages of cut and paste, or completely dominate a thread with a sales pitch, regardless of what I'm selling.
I'm not sure what truly believing in something has to do with letting someone run rampant on other peoples threads. What's to stop me or anyone from filling pages with garbage just to prove a point?
If this person filled page after page with information from the koran or the watchtower would you still be as forgiving?
So again, aside from being a member in good standing... and not a newbie, can anyone can post like this, or is it only the freaks we play lip service to? Those with a disparaging view..
Because for the life of me, I don't understand why this gets a pass and others get the boot.
I'm not talking about banning or wiping the slate clean, necessarily, but maybe software could be written that would prevent it from happening in the first place. At last count, the tally on that thread was at 23 posts and obviously growing. If I'm new to this site and I don't know all the bells and whistles, that's a lot of posts to wade through before you get back to the topic on hand. How many people do you suppose would do that?

is anyone debunking the racist rants to any effect? someone would have to put a lot of time in to keep up with Pamela's co-believer.

@Ceili,
When a new user first sign in explain all the bell and whistle with a warning that to get the most out of this system you will likely need to know about such features as ignore user.

Oh explain the voting system and give them a choice to try the system without enabling the disappearing posting feature or not.

Most new users are not going to be new users of websites discussion boards after all!!!!!!!!!!

They are not trying to sell ideas that had any wide appeal after all and they are the ones trying to walk into the wind on their racist ideas.

Looking up from my netbook as I am typing this I see an interracial couple two booths over and this is in an area that in my own lifetime blacks could not be in certain areas at night without a pass and could not used most public beaches and on and on.

There seems little to fear from these people at least any longer.

The voting system hobbles a site that tends to be about conversation and ideas, my impression is that when Robert put it in he was trying to sift out trash and for some reason he thought that popularity was a legit way to do it. Hopefully he has figured out by now that the least popular ideas and messengers are sometimes the most factually correct, the most in need of being heard, because they are presenting facts and ideas that people dont want to hear but need to hear so that their flawwed beliefs might be improved. Robert would improve the site tremendously if he were to strip all of the popularity metric tools out.
