Consider that Maine is a tinderbox and with the many state/federal parks, animal habitats and refuges... is it wise to be legalizing fireworks is a such a state for any reason? Is it worth the risk?
Steps need to be taken to block this new lift on the fireworks ban in Maine. I am not against liberty but this is liberty gone awry. Not only would it tax the air quality overall to have more carbon emissions and other noxious gases created by the sheer volume of fireworks but also it will magnify the dangers of a statewide fire. How would such a fire benefit Maine? It would not benefit Maine, it would devastate our natural resources and could come with a serious toll of life and loss. Is this the right type of commerce for Maine to be attracting?
@RexRed,
There is so much land in MAine tht is only connecteed by dirt roads. The "Unorganized Territories" are pretty much that.
Yet, up to now, Maine has hd a pretty good fire record
@RexRed,
A controlled burn gets out of hand but teenagers with flaming fire rockets landing wherever will be safe? Not!
Republicans are in control of Michigan too and the state is in such good hands!
Michigan wildfire grows to more than 21,000 acres

Comment: Now that the land is clear big business can turn those wildlife reserve acres into a greedy profit making resource! Condos, casinos and churches!
Hey Michigan! If you have not already, how would you like to legalize fireworks too? It will bring such good commerce into your state? People can come and vacation there, blow off fireworks and look at the scorched earth all day! You can take them on tours of the fire ravaged forests and they can buy tickets to see the dead wildlife, what fun!
Utah governor: Gun shooters cause too many wildfires

Wait till we get teenage kids indiscriminately shooting off fireworks in the Maine woods in a month... Nearly the hottest summer on record... All so fireworks companies can make a buck! YAY BIG BUSINESS! (cynical)
Should the fireworks companies pay the tab for the fire crews needed and fire damage caused by their products or will Maine taxpayers pay the bill with our broke treasury? Will the current Governor La Page be held accountable for his (bought off and sold out) shift in allowing fireworks in our green PINE TREE STATE?
I say we hold the governor and the fireworks companies accountable and make them pay for any subsequent fires caused by this radical agenda. (Just as the NRA should be held accountable in Utah for fires caused by guns if they are so gun happy to indiscriminately proliferate guns and lobby our government.) Sound fair? Since fireworks are SO IMPORTANT to them while ignoring their carbon, sulfur emission and fire hazard in a state full of trees, Governor LePage should pay out of his own pocket and the fireworks companies should pay for any subsequent fires. It is time that these corporations pay for the damage their products cause consumers and the environment! If they can lobby our democracy altering it to bend to their will to bring this hazard to our state they can be held responsible for the damage caused! When some kid blows off an arm, a leg or loses an eye the Governor and his cohorts should pay the medicals bills if they are so certain fireworks in Maine are safe and pose no serious hazard... WHO WILL BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THIS?
@RexRed,
arent firewprks pf a certain kind illegal in Me? The fireworks companies can only be responsible for those salutes that they illegaly distribute in any state that forbids em. What about the kids who buy em in New Hampshire and set em off in the ski areas of Western Maine? Dont they have some responsibilities ?

They were illegal till out current governor, LePage, decided to make them legal starting I think some time this July... You know in the end who pays, the Maine tax payers not the corporations or sponsors of bad policy...
Jefferson County bans public display of fireworks

"Some" people have some common horse sense for brains... It only takes a small amount of brains, fidelity and concern for public safety to see fireworks for the hazard that they pose.
@RexRed,
So fireworks of a certain class (A nd B) ARE still illegal. Apparently LePage didnt "open" it up to WWIII.
I always hated the clandestine salutes in Wahington County in the pines. I recall several bad fires in and around Eastport because some shithed was setting off "Bottle rockets" in a dry hayfield
Westbrook to review its allowance of fireworks
http://portlanddailysun.me/index.php/newsx/local-news/7369-westbrook-to-review-its-allowance-of-fireworks
Instead of the Westbrook tax payers paying for all of the police, fire and city hall calls maybe our governor might pay for them out of his own pocket? ...and his fire works business friends who have invaded our state? Why should Maine tax payers pay for the fall out of their shady activities? Selling fireworks in a dry tinderbox... and that is supposed to help the middle class Mainer how? Yes people need more guns and now explosives too... (cynical)

Letters to the editor:
Bring back Maine's fireworks ban
The explosion of two large pots of fireworks that some clowns just lit outside my front door, at 11:30 on a Thursday night, blasting me and my family out of bed, offers me the perfect opportunity to state my opinion on an important matter:
For generations, people from near and far came to Maine to enjoy a peaceful and quiet life. Now, with the legal sale of fireworks, we have made a deal with the devil, sacrificing a decent night's sleep for a few tax dollars and jobs, not to mention the burns and injuries that are sure to become common, and the additional workload and expenses incurred by our police and fire personnel as they respond to incidents like the one my neighbors and I experienced tonight.
However, one good thing has come from the sale of fireworks. This libertarian experiment, spearheaded by the Republican Party, offers a glimpse of what we can expect if they continue in power. Their attempts to make Maine better destroy the things that make Maine great.
