It looks like the Iranians are continuing thier nuclear enrichment program - despite promises they would end it.

Iran Said to Renege On Nuclear Promises

While allegations of Iraqi WMD programs were dubious at best, it has long been known that Iran had an advancing nuclear program.

It appears that Iran's continueing push to develop nuclear weapons has been largely ignored. Iran is already capable of producing nuclear fissle material. Only thirteen other countries have this capability, and seven of them are nuclear. They now have all the material needed for building a nuclear weapon. Also, Iran has developed a missle capable of reaching as far as Israel.

According to Atlantic Monthly, Paksitan and Iran have been working together for over a decade through a "secret nuclear-weapons-co-operation agreement." Iran has also made use of the international trade in nuclear scientists - sending 17,000 Iranian students abroad for nuclear training, and importing so many North Korean scientists that they built an exclusive resort.

Given that we just waged war over what Bush is now calling "weapons of mass destruction related programs" how do you think the Iranian nuclear program fits in? Should America react, and if so, how?

Iraq had an obligation under a cease fire to keep away from WMDs.

Iran only has treaty obligations.

Such treaties can be broken, the US withdrew from one very recently.

There won't be a war simply on the basis of Iranian WMD simply because there is no legal basis for this.

Of course, Iraq's cease-fire obligations gave us an avenue to justify invasion, and that is not present in Iran. I agree that the idea of war in Iran is farcical.

Bush promoted the Iraq war by arguing that Iraqi WMDs and WMD programs coupled with Hussein's hatred of America posed an immediate threat. It now appears that Iran has an advanced nuclear program and 20 years of rivalry with America. Surely, this is of some importance.

And if it isn't important to us, that raises alot of questions about our motivations and actions in Iraq.

Dreadie, the Iranians only want them to make a hole in the spot presently occupied by Israel. It's the North Koreans who HAVE the plutonium and missiles that I'd be more worried about.
