By three years’ hard working and excellent performance in university, I have proved myself a talent in civil engineering management, and can do better in this field. During these three years, I have learnt a lot from Structural Mechanics, Engineering Mechanics, Engineering Evaluation, Contract Management and Construction Enterprise Management. With the average grade of 85.58, I have received scholarships for being an excellent student for three years successively. To my belief, the three-year fruitful study is the valuable experience for me to lay a strong foundation for my further study.

During the three-year study, I deeply feel that as an excellent student, I should not just focus on studying theory; the most important is to put what I have learnt into practice. After studying mechanics subjects, I participated in Structure Design Contest for three times. In school-level competition, owning to application of framed-tube structure system with less weight but high bearing capacity, finally our group got the 2nd prize among 70 groups. Then we were recommended to take part in provincial competition. We cooperated to make more than 20 models through comparison among diverse bearing capacities of different structure systems. To every model, utilizing our knowledge on Structure Mechanics and Material Mechanics, we made analysis through comparing, calculating and loading. Consequently, our group won a prize for excellence by using the design concept of "strong column weak beam" and “strong joints weak pole” to confirm the frame structure featured with simple force transmission route.

With the purpose to further practice myself, I took an active part in the sand table simulation experiment hosted by Glodon Company Limited. I, as a project manager in this simulation experiment, led the whole team to do the gain and loss analysis of construction project. Every group member should consider how to make full use of capitals, how to optimize and balance resources distribution and keep a smooth progress. Our group won the great praise from all staffs of Glodon because we eventually finished the task at minimum capital in the shortest time. It is just this success allowing me to have the valuable opportunity to work as an intern in this company. This experience let me have the basic understanding of the whole operation of engineering project.

As the time coming up, I became interested in residential building energy consumption, so I looked up related materials and collected data about average temperature and residential power consumption of Zhejiang Province. Under my advisor’s conduction, I was able to do the research in more detail. In my spare time, I also researched on the sensitivity of building energy consumption to some elements with DeST-h software. And the advanced studies of CAD gave a dramatic help to my thesis writing. To our happiness, the thesis named Sensitivity Analysis of Influence Factors on Residential Building Energy Consumption in Hot Summer and Cold Winter Zone with my great English translation was published in International Magazine-Advanced Material Research and quoted by EI and ISTP.

As we all know, along with the development of economy, civil engineering attracts many people’s attention and it becomes increasingly internationalized. Many Chinese engineering projects started to use the FIDIC terms. Once a time, I have met a senior experienced engineer. When talking, I found they were helpless to international contracted projects as that they did not understand the English bidding documents; therefore, they missed many chances. Since then, it solidified my determination to study abroad to enlarge my knowledge to alter the present status.

Hong Kong, a cosmopolitan city, is my dream place combining the Chinese and western cultures, which will broaden my mind. The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, as the leading university with great teaching staff, advanced equipment and labs is also the driving force for me to pursue my further study. And the open environment you create favors the exchange of knowledge and ideas, which enhances the development of new ideas, critical thinking and cross-culture awareness. The courses Risk Assessment and Contaminated Land Cleanup, Building Planning and Construction, Construction Financial Management you offered also attract me to choose your university to study master degree. After finishing my master degree, I hope to become an excellent engineering manager. By combining the technology and management, I could try my best to find out the problems existing in engineering and solve them efficiently.
