So Im taking Philosophy at college and this is what our class has been set as an assignment.
I have to write an essay about what I think, back it up with evidence and a persuasive arguement. Help!?

@loopylu15,
Your best bet would be to pm J Goldman 10, he has done some rather exhausive research on the subject, and is viewed by a lot of us here on A2K as something of an expert.

@loopylu15,
This assignment is to see whether you can write in English ( you might note that your title sentence is ungrammatical) and whether you understand that "better" depends on the subjective dimensions of the comparison, which can range across anything from beauty through utility to humans to ease of cooking ! In my opinion the instructor deserves to suffer from whatever nonsense he gets !

@fresco,
...are you talking about concordance ? "are" instead of "is" ?

On the basis of these three considerations alone, dog win hands down.

Either the instructor is, as hingehead is fond of saying, a knob, or he is looking forward to one or two enjoyable surprises.

I'd like to read these papers. I have a feeling all of them will be humerous although for different reasons.

The suggestion that one is better than the other bothers me.

Different isn't better. I think that determining which is "better" would depend on your preferences in pets.

I could go on and on. But I'll let it rest.

@loopylu15,
I think of it in terms of symbiosis, not in terms of better or worse. There need to be dogs because the universe needs masters. There need to be cats because all those dogs need food. It's a yin-and-yang thing.

@Thomas,
Your dog thinks you are a god - because you feed it.

Your cat thinks it is a god - because you feed it.

@roger,
...one way to see it is that dogs are realists and cats "idiotits"...pretty philosophical is n´t it ?
I suppose if you like to be a slave you go with the (delusional) cats...
