I'd love to hear what you think of it. Oh, and Frank Capra got an Oscar for it. It was later made into a TV series, but lasted only a short time.
Capra is getting rediscovered all the time, it seems. I love his philosophy, sort of a spirit of Christmas the year 'round.
Capra directed one of my all-time favorite movies, "Pocketful of Miracles" with Bette Davis and Glenn Ford. It had that Christmas year 'round feeling to it.
I believe I saw Pocketful of Miracles at a time when it wouldn't really register. I'll put it on my list.
On this thread I had previously mentioned the obscure movie comedy duo of Clark & McCullough. Here's a link to a feature on one of their best movies,
Alibi Bye Bye.
That's an interesting article. Until you posted about them, I had never heard of Clark and McCullough.
i just had to mention i finally watched "House of Sand and Fog" and was totally blown away by Ben Kingsleys performance..I like Sean Penn, but his performance in "Mystic River" does not even compare to Bens....a sad tragic film to be sure, but very well acted.
I haven't seen those movies, but plan to one day.
Ben Kingsley is another one of those actors who, like Gene Hackman, always turns in a strong performance and makes watching even a weakass movie worthwhile.
Funny thing, Kingsley is widely respected, I haven't read a bad word on him - Yet, I've never seen the man on screen. Am I a shut-in or what?
My wife won't go to movies, so I miss a lot.
Why won't your wife go to the movies, if it's not too nosy to ask?
I finally watched Oh Brother Where Art Thou? It was entertaining, though the characters didn't have much bite. I couldn't help thinking how much George Clooney looked like Clark Gable.
Yes. It was that stingy little mustache, I think.
On the subject of Clooney, when they first began to move him from television to movies I was dubious. He struck me as a non action person, one who looks good in a suit or doctor's garb, but action parts? No way. Of late, I am coming to change my mind.
He's proved himself, IMO, to be a very capable actor. Comfortable, relaxed. Not for one moment do you sense that he's 'acting'. I saw him in a piece of fluff a few years back with Michelle Pfeiffer, "One Fine Day", and it was a cute and funny little movie. And my goodness were they beautiful. Just couldn't decide who was the prettiest.
Once I got past Batman, Clooney was okay.
wow, edgar. I'm truly sorry that you weren't taken by O Brother. I thought the music was fantastic and the entire plot quite delightfully insane.
Now for the question that I have been trying to get folks to go along with for some time:
What characters paralleled the Odyssey?
Which film are you referring to, Letty?
I liked the music from O Brother enough that I bought the sound track album.
