I'm amazed that the Religious Right has not yet realized that they are being used by the Republican Party to get the votes they want to support their real base, the corporations and the wealthy. They have played this game for decades with the Religious Right. They do a few things the Right wants just to keep them voting and funding to support Republicans.
I once saw a photo George W. Bush speaking to a room full of rich corporations men and women. He had a big grin on his face as he nodded to them, saying "You are our real base!" The crowd laughed and nodded.

@BumbleBeeBoogie,
Religion is just another business for the most part. The high ups are just well paid CEO's.
@BumbleBeeBoogie,
My enemy's enemy is my friend?
Maybe they dream of taking over the elephant's reigns?
The problem of a two party system is that if you don't fit with either party you don't have a political voice. Over the last couple of decades we've seen the rise in Europe of both the greens and the extreme right because of this. Jury still out on whether minority and coalition govts are better than what the US has.
