@Rockhead,
I've never been to a girly swap meet either. Sounds interesting.
Last night I was thinking about foods that I haven't been eating since on The Plan and wondering if there was anything that I really miss not being able to eat. I decided if there was one thing I would have a hard time having in front of me and not eating it would be buttered popcorn. I've got my first celebration meal coming up in a week or so. I think I'm going to have to include popcorn in there somewhere.
@Rockhead,
Yeah, I slow down as I come around the corner and stroll across the front of the house and up the driveway. Then I sit with a ice bag on my back for about 15 minutes.
No thanks on the bon bons. I don't eat sweets much. Salty, fatty, crunchy things, otoh, could cause us to struggle over ownership of the bag.
@JPB,
nah.
I loathe popcorn.
sticks in my teeth...
journey carefully. I gotta go soda blast.
Today completes week 6 of The Plan. Most of my energies were spent on allowing my back to begin to heal and to slowly start to return to life off the couch. I did MBS for 4 days and feel MUCH better than I did on Wednesday. I think the marching/bouncing aspect is a keeper. I've always tried to do the stretching, but this warmup makes the stretching much more effective. I also walked around the block (0.6 miles) twice/day beginning on Thursday. I started out very slowly (3mph pace) and have gradually increased it as my energy and back allowed. I did today's tour in 10 mins (3.6 mph). That's fast enough; I won't try to increase it any further than that.
I woke up this morning pain-free for the first time in 10 days. It's unbelievable how much better I feel. No new spasms and just a slight residual tenderness in my lower left back area. I have another appt with Dr Wizard tomorrow. We'll see what he says.
I didn't do any 8MM this week. I'll ask about that tomorrow. I went to my Wednesday morning class - it was nice to get out of the house and be with people for a bit. I'm headed off to the new church this morning; I'm still undecided about whether it's a good fit.
My weight is down 3.5 lbs from last week, which is a 20! lb loss in 6 weeks and 3 lbs from my target weight. My appt with the neurologist is 3 weeks away. I have 3 day's supply left of my meds and my insurance expires on 10/6. I have no idea if I'll be able to get a full month's refill on the insurance or just a couple days. I'll find out tomorrow. I'm going to schedule baseline blood tests next week for the week after.
My trip out of town is in two weeks. I have no doubt that I'll meet my target weight before I leave. My mission will be to maintain it while traveling. I've started making a list of nutritional items that I need to bring from here and grocery shopping I need to do once I get there. I think (hope) I'll be fine. We have a refrigerator and microwave in the hotel room and there's a fitness center on-site. I plan on using it.
Thanks for reading and for being here with all your comments. It helps!

part of my haul
so the dealio was that you brought in (to a local vintage/local designer store) at least one bag of clothes/accessories and $5 in the week before the swap - the store rented a hall, organized the stuff, brought in a couple of vendors - you could fill one giant bag with whatever you could stuff in. the shop 'seeds' the swap with goodies from the store.
the balance of the funds from renting the hall were donated to the Red Cross. the 20 bags of leftover clothes (a lot of people do what I do - bring in 4 or 5 bags of clothes) were donated to a women's shelter as well as a youth street mission's shop
@JPB,
Jeez, J. Pain-free, svelte, and fit. Relieved to hear about the pain. Good.
You are a paragon of self-discipline and determination. Also self-improvement.
And screw the steenkin' insurance company.
@JPB,
Yippie, you're pain free within a relative short time, that's great news. Don't
overdo it now though, your back might have eliminated the pain but you are still not healed. Congratulations on your additional weight loss!
I forgot why you cannot get additional insurance/COBRA. With Obamacare and waivers of pre-existing conditions, it should be manageable to get an
affordable insurance, but the premiums are probably so exorbitant high that it's unattainable.
What a great idea, ehbeth. Sounds fun and it looks like you brought home some treasures!
Thanks, Roberta. Unfortunately the insurance companies said "screw you" to me first.
You're right, CJ, I'm not healed. It's still very weak and I've got a ways to go before I'm out of the woods. Fortunately, I'm headed in the right direction and I've got the tools to keep making progress.
The portion of the Health Care Act of 2010 that precludes insurance companies from denying coverage on preexisting conditions doesn't kick in until 2014 for adults. Kids must now (as of Sept 2011) be covered under their parent's policies for all preexisting conditions, but that's only if the parents have an eligible policy. That's why Mr B is going with private insurance - so he can be the qualifying parent for himself and the girls. We've all been on COBRA continuation coverage from his former employer's group plan since April 6th, 2010. That only lasts for 18 months and is due to expire this week. I've already been rejected for private insurance coverage because of my stroke and TIA history. The state of IL has a plan that I'm eligible for but I need to go through their hoops (which are different hoops than what we've had to go through for Mr B and the girls) and I'm still in limbo there. The cost for all of it is exorbitant - about $21,000/year for the four of us in premiums and deductibles, and that's BEFORE we receive any benefit. Once I finish going through all the necessary hoops I'll be able to find out if my IL plan is retroactive to 10/7 - or, better yet, I may have all the I's dotted and the T's crossed by the 6th. I don't know yet, nor do I know what the coverage will be for prescriptions, if any. Insurance companies are not my favorite entities at the moment.
@JPB,
That's just plain horrible! a) the cost of healthcare and b) the difficulties in obtaining it. You'd think, Obama would regulate the health insurances first, but they were left out completely and still can do as they please. Very unfortunate, especially when I see (out here in CA) that undocumented aliens get free health services everywhere.
@JPB,
Back from a 5 k walk with the dogs down at the lake. Not too brisk anymore, as Cleo sashays more than marches. I did mix in some marching on the spot when the dogs were taking sniff breaks. I looked like part of the regular beach exercise parade - cept I skipped the chin-ups on the bars.
Beth, I took a 7.2 mile walk today and followed it up with a short bike ride. I just wanted to let you know that I am getting in shape. Thanks for listening.
Yes, I did. Thank you for the recovery process.
@trying2learn,
Now, I'm always going to think of Kochtopf with shiny hair.
@gustavratzenhofer,
well you posted it and then probably deleted it
Are you mocking me? I am getting just a little pissed here and may draw my pocket knife.
@gustavratzenhofer,
You can't and I won't let you near my dog
Your dog is toast. I am sorry. So very, very sorry. ( have you not been told of my interntational dog-assassin status?)
@gustavratzenhofer,
No I don't know anything about your status and my dog is NOT toast. I will protect her at all costs
@gustavratzenhofer,
not bad, but I think you're starting to obsess
