I ordered an exercise ball today. Bouncing and balancing is a great thing to be able to do here at the house. Soz got one not too long ago. Are you still using it, soz?

I am! Still love it. (It's what I sit on at the computer.) I'm more fit than I "ought" to be re: exercise and food (as in, not enough of the former and not on any diet of any sort), and I think that may be because of the exercise ball. I bounce on it a lot, and always have to "work" (minutely) a little bit to keep balanced.

@sozobe,
That's good to hear. I don't think it will replace The Chair but I hope to incorporate it into my daily routine. Maybe balance and peddle?!?!?! Er.... maybe not.

@JPB,
Yeah, that's a risky combo!

Right, with the back problems you've had it probably wouldn't be good as an all-day thing. But I definitely find it useful, and it'd probably be perfect for the bouncing you've been doing. And best of all they're cheap!

You probably will need someone to inflate it for you though, that was a bit of work itself. (Not prohibitively but since you're having all of these back issues, good to avoid that part I think.)

@sozobe,
I bought the hand pump but then I read your post to Mr B and told him he'd have to pump it up for me. He looked at me blankly and said, "Why can't I use the air compressor in the garage?" Um..... no reason.

Tough night sleeping last night and I woke up feeling sugar deprived. I read back earlier when I had the hypoglycemic episode and noticed it was concurrent with a horrid night's sleep. Lots of "stuff" going on right now and I had a hard time shutting down my thoughts. This morning I had some raspberries and a bit of orange juice with my breakfast. All better now. I'm curious to see if I get a good night's sleep tonight. It could be totally unrelated but I thought it was interesting.

Repeated the marching/bouncing/stretching/walking from yesterday. I really feel good afterwards. I'd say my back pain is down in the 1-2 range (minimal, doesn't restrict activity) after the first three and I had good energy for my walk.

Today's the last day of the month which is one of my busiest days and requires lots of Chair time. I better get to it. I hope to sneak in another walk around the block this afternoon.

@JPB,
I like the sound of the marching/bouncing/stretching. I think I'm going to find a spot to do some marching/bouncing.

@ehBeth,
I've got one picked out for Monday.
And a project manager to be bounced/stretched once I march to it.

Cool - I'm curious if you find it helpful. Repeated for the third day today and I find it Very Helpful.

If anyone needs some back strengthening exercises, this is one of my first posts at A2K. The ones I'm doing now are very similar to the bent knee stretches except I'm starting with my legs extended.

Very stiff this morning with some minor spasms. I feel much better after marching/bouncing/stretching. It's only in the 40s here this morning so I'm about to bundle up and head out for my first walk. I did some more reading and it looks like 6-8 weeks is what I'm looking at for a time frame to heal and ---> if it becomes chronic. I'm going to do my best to be in the healed group. MBS is my new best friend!

I don't know, I have one of these balance balls and it's been collecting dust - I just can't get any use out of it. One time I fell backwards and scraped my ellbows on the carpet. I am probably too clumsy for it. Embarrassed

Great progress, JPB! You've found a way to bypass the obstacles and still
work towards your goal, that's the spirit!

@CalamityJane,
When Annie was eight, we played tug of war. I found out that she has a very strong grip. I actually injured my shoulder and had soreness for weeks.

@JPB,
so far so good

of course it's only been two days of marching and bouncing

(did the edge of bed bounce v the bouncy ball bounce )

I counted the two hours of gathering things for the swap meet as my stretching Laughing

I have some tall valve covers and an aluminum intake manifold for the swap meet. some rusty old headers as well.

can you take them, too?

(contrary to rumor, Bumbles don't bounce...)

but cheering for you bouncing girls.

@Rockhead,
it was a pretty girly kinda swap meet - in among the 4 bags of stuff I hauled in were 2 sets of leopard print jammies. I didn't bring home any leopard print anything.

@wandeljw,
wow wandel, if Annie is that strong she should do excellent in playing tennis.
Actually, Jane has strong arms too and she's good at tennis, she could be a mini Steffi Graf, but she doesn't want to play any longer...

@CalamityJane,
Yikes! Be careful on things that can roll out from underneath you!

I used a ball for bouncing at a holistic center I visited with a friend this spring. They started each day with 20 mins of bouncing and flailing/thumping. The first day he asked if anyone had a bad back (me and one other person). He had us use balls instead of the rebounders.

jw - we get injured more easily as we age. Wink

Tennis isn't something I could ever play well. No hand-eye coordination.

RH - do you have pompoms? Cheerleaders should have pompoms.

ehbeth - glad you like the marching/bouncing. It seems to do a good job of getting things warmed up and the blood flowing. I hope you had fun at the swap meet.

I just got back from my second tour around the block. My pace is picking up a bit and I'm now comfortably completing 0.6 miles in just over 10 mins (about a 3.4 mph pace).

@ehBeth,
I can't remember ever owning leopard print anything...

prolly a reason for that.

and never been to a girlie swap meet.

is it like a tupper-ware party?

(my crazy ex in Chicago used to host sextoy parties)
