Found it!
Quote:Yesterday Mr B and I walked (me)/ran (him) our first chip-timed 5K charity race. I came in second in my division (F/50-59) and first among the walkers! YAY, ME!!! The woman who won my division beat me by 15 mins so there's no doubt she was a runner. My time was 45:53.55 (14:48/Min per mile pace) or 4.05 mph for 3.1 miles. I'll take it! I was overdressed because it was supposed to rain (didn't). I think I can shave a few seconds off of that the next time. It's late in the race season but I can shoot for 45:30 by spring.
Ok... I'll take that goal. 45:30 by March.
I hadn't walked in ages until this morning. I've been traveling a lot and I spent most of last weekend in bed with back spasms. I got the all clear from my chiro on Tuesday to start walking again. I walked 1.5 miles at a moderate pace on Tues and Weds, but then got so busy with work that I never left the house on Thurs or Fri.
Today was the chip-timed 5K that I'd signed up for months ago. I almost didn't go. In fact, I felt so crappy last night that I decided not to try to get up in time to get to Naperville by 7:30 (45 mins away). But then I woke up early, had a cup of coffee, saw the weather report and decided to give it a try. The conditions were ideal - 60 degrees, gentle breeze, brilliant sun.
I was hoping to beat my time last fall of 45:54 but I didn't have much hope because I'd been such a slouch lately. The first thing I noticed is that they have hills in Naperville. Hills? In IL? Who knew? There were 2200 participants and all but about 200 of us were lined up at the runners starting line. The walkers were in the back. I noticed that the race clock was 4:45 when I crossed the starting line. I was shocked when I reached the one mile mark at 18:50. A 14 min pace? Really? Even going uphill much of the first 1/2 mile? Cool! I recalled that I came in just under 46 mins in November and had wanted to shave a few seconds off of that by March. I was definitely on pace to do that if I didn't burn out. The race clock at the 2 mile mark read 32:40 - still maintaining a 14 min pace and still feeling great. 1.1 miles to go and some of the runners in front of me had slowed way down to a slow walk. I was definitely ahead of most of the walker group and now I was starting to pass some of the joggers/trotters. My official time was 41:39 for 3.1 miles (5K). YAY ME!!!
