Either guillotine or SAS-placed rifle shot to the head. The latter kills so quickly a held weapon remains held because the victim dies so quickly even their muslces don't have time to relax.

There had been indications that the brain is alive and aware for a few seconds at least after the head is cut off.

In fact I read of one case of a man who was about to be guillotine telling his friend that he would try to blink his eyes after his head was cut off and the friend reported that he did in fact blink two times.
