Weekend Competition: Kicking the Bucket
This weekend, co-vocabularists are invited to propose favorite (or novel) euphemisms for death.

All of us, one day, will be pushing up the daisies or going to meet our maker and we might as well be euphemistic when we finally give up the ghost.

Funereal flowers will be awarded for the most curious and unusual offerings.

bought the farm.

I don't know why, this phrase always make me sad and calm at the same time.

@Joe Nation,
It's one of the most common though I wonder what its providence is.

You mentioned it already, but I always liked pushing up the daisies. And also, feeding the fishies.

@littlek,
Pushing up the daisies is so cute and benign sounding that it works.

The ones that have always bothered me are anything that has to do with "pass".

Soandso "passed" last night.

It sounds like Soandso did well on a test.

My Father in Law always says (and he says some crazy ****) that "Soandso went to Memphis".

I know he meant Memphis, Egypt but whenever I had to travel to Tennessee I always got a bit nervous.

@tsarstepan,
Pretty much everything in the Dead Parrot Sketch works for me.

My favorite? Prolly "pining for the fjords".

When I went to my dads funeral, I later spent some time visiting a friend.
We went into a gift store, and he started looking at sympathy cards.

He started reading some to me, and I was trying not to laugh (guess you had to be there)

I totally lost it though, and had to literally sit down on the floor laughing from one card that began....

Let 's see if I can remember this accurately
(from a plaque on the wall of the City Hall of Yonkers, NY, about 30 years ago):

B. Franklin, Printer, Like the Cover of an Old Book
its Contents torn Out and Striped of its Lettering and Gilding,
Lies Here, food for worms, but the Work shall not be lost;
for it will (as he Believed) Appear once More
In a New and More Elegant Edition

The farm is a plot of real estate about 3' X 6'.
