Which actor was the main star in the 1970's film that was based on the novel "The Alien"?

Tom Skeritt? He starred in the 1979 movie Alien with Sigourney Weaver.

Not the film "Alien" but the novel "The Alien"!
From what i can see online, it appears that the novel to which you refer was based on the original motion picture.
