“Those who profess to favor freedom and yet depreciate agitation, are people who want crops without ploughing the ground; they want rain without thunder and lightning; they want the ocean without the roar of its many waters. The struggle may be a moral one, or it may be a physical one, or it may be both. But it must be a struggle. Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did and it never will.”
― Frederick Douglass

@edgarblythe,
You have enemies? Good. That means you've stood up for something, sometime in your life.

If you have only one of something you can't say it's the best of anything.

@edgarblythe,
There's only one England and that's the best of countries.

@spendius,
But it cannot be the best of Englands, as there is just one.

This royal throne of kings, this sceptred isle,
This earth of majesty, this seat of Mars,
This other Eden, demi-paradise,
This fortress built by Nature for herself
Against infection and the hand of war,
This happy breed of men, this little world,
This precious stone set in the silver sea,
Which serves it in the office of a wall
Or as a moat defensive to a house,
Against the envy of less happier lands,-
This blessed plot, this earth, this realm, this England.
William Shakespeare
King Richard II.

@edgarblythe,
Not really. It's real enough as a rhetorical device to get the poor bloody infantry to "do and die" so that fats cats stay fat cats. "Land of the free" type shite.

I don't think a woman should be in any government job whatever. I mean, I really don't. The reason why I do is mainly because they are erratic. And emotional.
