@edgarblythe,
Shoot it Jimmy! was the poem that first brought him to my attention.

I like the way he described The Wasteland as a tragedy, I was never much of a fan of TS Eliot.

@izzythepush,
Elliot is a tough read for me. I prefer to read about him rather than by him.

@edgarblythe,
I would rather sit in silence and be thought of as dumb, than to open my mouth and remove all doubt.

“All, too, will bear in mind this sacred principle, that though the will of the majority is in all cases to prevail, that will, to be rightful, must be reasonable; that the minority possess their equal rights, which equal laws must protect, and to violate would be oppression.”

I was working on the proof of one of my poems all the morning, and took out a comma. In the afternoon I put it back again.

Human Dignity has gleamed only now and then and here and there, in lonely splendor, throughout the ages, a hope of the better men, never an achievement of the majority.

“But we are living in a skeptical and, if I may use the phrase, a thought-tormented age; and sometimes I fear that this new generation, educated or hypereducated as it is, will lack those qualities of humanity, of hospitality, of kindly humor which belonged to an older day..”

Man had always assumed that he was more intelligent than dolphins because he had achieved so much... the wheel, New York, wars, and so on, whilst all the dolphins had ever done was muck about in the water having a good time. But conversely the dolphins believed themselves to be more intelligent than man for precisely the same reasons.
