Hospice

This morning my therapist suggested I register with Hospice; that's something that will open both eyes. I'm not at all sure just what it it means other than a nurse will visit from time to time as well as a hospice counselor and a Dr.. No time frame given; maybe tonight maybe next year. I need to think about this as well as think about what I need to to

As for Hospice, I've never heard anything but good about it. I've also heard that if the patient isn't registered with Hospice and 911 is called, if the patient is dead, they have to do an autopsy at the hospital. That seems a final indignity.

I've arrived late and don't know who the hell anybody is. However, I'm gonna take a wild guess.

I didn't know that there was such a thing as hospice care at home. It sounds like a good idea and far less intrusive on your life than going somewhere you don't know and don't wanna be.

I think it would be a comfort to you and a help to that female you're shacked up with.

day 2; not much interested in medical facts today, more interested in hope. I's nearly spring here and the fountain/pond is running but there's no colour in the garden. I was hoping to plant some flowers, a few at a time over the next 2 weeks. I was running on hope, I'm all out of hope. Perhaps hope is just around the corner but I don't see any tomatoes or kangaroo paws, roses will good looking and the hummingbirds are already being freed with the finches, I can watch.

Hospice care is a special way of caring for a patient whose disease cannot be cured. It is available as a benefit under Medicare Hospital Insurance (Part A). Medicare beneficiaries who choose hospice care receive non-curative medical and support services for their terminal illness.

To be eligible, they must be certified by a physician to be terminally ill with a life expectancy of six months or less. While they no longer receive treatment toward a cure, they require close medical and supportive care which a hospice can provide. Hospice care under Medicare includes both home care and inpatient care, when needed, and a variety of services not otherwise covered by Medicare. The focus is on care, not cure. Emphasis is on helping the person to make the most of each hour and each day of remaining life by providing comfort and relief from pain.
