@hawkeye10,
I think this article makes the point why Gottfried was over the line: too soon is a function of the magnitude of the disaster, the time since the disaster and the relation of the person telling the joke to those suffering. Another factor may be the venue. Gottfried telling a 911 joke at a private party three weeks after 911 was questionable, but at least it was three weeks and he is an American. Japan is still in progress or a few days old depending on how you are counting, Gottfried is a foreigner employed by the biggest insurance company in Japan and he did it on Twitter. If he'd done this as a stand-up routine in two months, no one would have noticed. Of course, it wouldn't have been edgy and current then either. He's probably better off freed from Aflac to pursue his comedy act.

Hell, I'd say they were stupid to pay a celebrity to do a duck voice to begin with, there's no differentiation between the celebrity duck voice and a no-name voice actor. I never knew that he was the voice of the duck till now and this is a no-brainer for Aflac.

@Robert Gentel,
I recognized Godfried's voice right away the FIRST time he voiced the duck.

No difference in voice actors? How many people can voice Donald or Daffy and do it professionally?

He has been, but while I assume that he has a record contract record companies are deep into the **** and dont have the ability to complain about artists who make them money.

so gilbert gotfreid gets fired for making jokes, but nobody seems to be disturbed by the constant cable news disaster porn, i mean you can practically see the anchors building to orgasm as they hope and pray for a nuclear disaster to really boost the ratings

@djjd62,
He didn't get fired for making jokes, he got fired for costing the company customers when his sole job was to try to gain customers.

If he did it just by poorly doing a duck voice they'd be right to fire him too, and you'd be wrong for saying he got fired for making a duck voice. No, he gets fired for bad job performance.

He makes jokes all the time and didn't get fired, so they clearly have no problem with jokes, and even offensive ones (he has no other brand of humor really), they have a problem with him loosing them clients when he's been hired to gain them and why shouldn't they?

One, is it silly that he was fired for making jokes, since he is a comedian anyways? What do people expect? Most comedians take a bad situation and try to make light of it through humor, but most people can't figure that out.

I think that there are things that are so horrible, that it is in the poorest of taste about which to make jokes. How would we have felt in the U.S. if some Japanese comedian made jokes about it after 9/11?

I made jokes about it. I still find it funny how Americans are all bent out of shape over 9/11 when the US has been doing this very same thing to the Palestinians for years! But not just them either. We lost how many people? How many have they lost? Seriously? Absurdity at it's finest and shows just how ignorant and uneducated Americans really are.

US citizens flown what planes into what buildings of the Palestinians?

US citizens drops what bombs on what Palestinians?

In fact name me one Palestinian that the US had directly kill.

Side note most of the damn 911 assholes was from a nation that we supported and went to war to defend not that long ago.

Where did you get the Palestinians involved?

I saw a new Aflac commercial yesterday. It showed the duck staring as a silent movie hero, saving the girl tied to the railroad tracks from the train racing towards her. At the end, the duck is hit by a train and is shown stuck to the front of the train while the caption reads "Be the next voice. Go to Aflac duck on Facebook".

More on the National Alfac Duck Hunt. Talk about turning lemons into lemonade, this is a great publicity stunt.

@engineer,
Wow, he SUCKS! It sounds too much like he is struggling to get it out, and it is way too mild. Now we have the tame, almost apologetic "Aflac!?!??"
