Thanks all!

I am so blessed to be able to have my grandma still with us so that my daughter can know her. She has dementia though and some days are better than others. However, she always remembers Adriana when we go see her at the home. Smile

They are having some success with singing and dancing to aid memory . Maybe that info might help in some way .

@Ionus,
In all actuality, she has Alzheimer's and she does a lot of things at the home she's at. She's done better since my grandpa passed. I think the stress of him being sick really took it's toll. She does well now, most of the time. There are certain triggers that just set her off. But thankfully, they've never come up when I have Adriana there.

They try to keep her mind busy but she's very old and very set in her ways so sometimes, she just rebels. She wants to go home and doesn't understand that that is her home now. Sad

@Bella Dea,
I am saddened by her situation . It seems a lousy end game to a productive and fruitful life . Does the home have singing and dancing to the tunes from her day ? Activity, especially ones that evoke happy memories can do wonders .

@Ionus,
Yes, they have dances and such. And she keeps busy but it's just not the same as being home and able to do things on your own. That's what makes her so upset.

the hardest part of working with alzheimers patients was learning how to buck around their ideas.
I got pretty good at it though.

when she says she needs to go home, just AGREE and say " yeah, we are just here waiting for ____whoever___ to pick us up"
and she asks why?
My car is in the shop.. or something simple like that.. then just go with the conversation. Start with the " so how are you doing anyway?"
Acknowledging their stress about what they feel they need to do works best and keeps them feeling happier then trying to convince them that they are wrong.
They are in a totally different day, different part of their life..everything.

I hate that disease, but it also fascinates me at the same time.
