"Of all the lessons history teaches, this one is the plainest: the person who tries to achieve ends through force is always unscrupulous and is always cruel. We should remember this in an age where morality seems to be disappearing and is being replaced by politics."
-- Eustace Percy
Our own history should teach us the people are going to remain subservient for only so long, at which point there is a backlash. The backlash may not accomplish its ends but it can bring the entire edifice down in a tangled mess from which we all suffer. The Bush administration seem to thoughtlessly sow whirl winds with no consideration of the ultimate outcome.
