AGES
Eilah is 6, Sally is 9

1/2 OF 16
There is no base where 1/2 of 16 is 13. Therefore, I'll assume that there are two bases involved and that one of them is ten.

If 16 is base 10, then 13 must be base 5. If 32 is base 10, then the base 5 representation of 32/3 (base 10) is 20.31...

If 13 is base 10, then 16 must be base 20. If 32 is base 20, then the base 10 representation of 32/3 (base 20) is 20.66...

I must say every day,' I must do better'.

There are several ways, but here are two:
97 30/45 + 2 6/18; 89 + 6 1/2 + 4 35/70

1/3 If you set it up as a proportion, it's easier to see:
1/2 (16) = 1/3 (32)
13 x
Cross multiplying gives:
8x = 416/3
x = 416/24
x = 17 1/3

Eilah is 6, and Sally is 9.

You have a huge box of beautiful decorated tiles, enough to provide a border in two rooms. You really can't figure out how to arrange them, however. If you set a border of two tiles all around, there's one left over; if you set three tiles all around, or four, or five, or six, there's still one tile left over. Finally; you try a block of seven tiles for each corner, and you come out even. What is the smallest number of tiles you could have to get this result Question

A car company sold 150 cars in a special 6-day tent sale offer. Each day the company sold 6 more cars than the day before. How many cars were sold on the 6th day Question

When the two met, one was half the other's age plus seven years. Ten years later, when they married, the bride was thirty, but this time one was nine-tenths the age of the other. How old was the groom Question

CARS
40

AGES
27

TILES
This doesn't make sense to me. If only one tile is left over when the border is two, won't you run out of tiles when the border is more? Or does a border of two mean every other tile, and a border of 3 mean every third tile, etc?

If I can not make myself clear, please do not waste your time.

There are 301 tiles. This is the smallest number that will give you a remainder of 1 when divided by 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6, but divided by 7 leaves no remainder.

On the first day, the company sold x cars. On the second day, x + 6, on the third day, x + 12, on the fourth day, x + 18, on the fifth day, x + 24, and on the sixth day, x + 30.
If you add all the days together you get the equation:

x + (x + 6) + (x + 12) + (x + 18) + (x + 24) + (x + 30) = 150 cars sold
6x + 90 = 150 and so x = 10. Therefore, on day 6 (x + 30) = 40

The bride was 30; the groom was 27.

It looks as if all the posts of the last few days have been ?'lost'. Shocked Oh well' back to the drawing board.

If you go to the movies and you're paying, is it cheaper to take one friend to the movies twice, or two friends to the movies at the same time?

It's cheaper to take two friends at the same time. In this case, you would only be buying three tickets, whereas if you take the same friend twice you are buying four tickets.

Well Mark, it appears it is just you and me, and I am at a severe disadvantage due to your terrific answer rate. Very Happy

TOXIC WASTE Cool
A pays $640K
B pays $160K
C pays $200K

Answer: Let x, y, and z be the amounts paid by Companies A, B, and C respectively. Since the total cost is $1,000,000, we know that x+y+z=1,000,000. From the other two conditions, we have x=4y and z=(x+y)/4 or equivalently, 4z=x+y. Substituting 4z for x+y into the first equation gives 4z+z=1,000,000, 5z=1,000,000 and z=200,000. Of the remaining 800,000 (x+y=800,000), substituting x=4y for x gives 5y=800,000, or y=160,000. Finally x=4y or $640,000.

TENNIS COURT Cool
The vowels.

SEVEN Cool
S (one third of 'six') and EVEN (two thirds of 'eleven') make SEVEN.

Mark, SP2- sweet. Although I can't say I have noticed any difference though. I dont know much about it. For much, read nothing.

As for PMs, don't bother. If you have an answer just post it up. Very few can answer these questions, and they only get more difficult from here on. Twisted Evil

Foot Size
It is a poor researcher (or poor test) that does not account for age variations.
Also, IQ peaks (if my recollection is correct) in the late 20s. After that, experience offsets the loss of raw intelligence.

Quibbles only. I expect that your answer is the expected on.e Cool
