In a spirograph toy you first select two circular gears. Keeping one gear stationary, you let the second gear travel around the first one until it arrives back at its initial position and orientation. By tracing the path with a pen through a hole in the second gear you can make designs.

Assuming the notches in the gears are equally spaced apart, and that there are x notches in the stationary gear, and y notches in the moving gear, how many trips around the first gear will the second gear need to make before it arrives back at its initial position and orientation Question

I baked this cake and the slice I tried both yesterday and today I had to throw away. The cake came from the oven very, very heavy, the top crust was hard, and it tasted as though something was not there, but before I began, I got all of my ingredients together, and made no substitutions, and I thought I followed the directions to the letter. What could have gone wrong? I wasted a lot of money on that cake....

Could someone solve THIS problem for me? Razz

Hi Try,,, how are you? Good i hope!,,,.

I, (thg) caught Herpes from my daughters dad,,, he told me he had them and i loved him anyway.

Do you know if there is a permanent cure for them? Stress brings on outbreaks, and i heard that the virus resides in the spinal cord.

Mismi, I think you were baking an upside down cake; the wrong way round  . Try my recipe:

Cranberry upside-down cake

50g plus 125g unsalted butter
150g plus 125g caster sugar
175g cranberries
125g self raising flour
pinch of salt
1 tsp cinnamon
2 large eggs
1 - 1.5 tbsp full fat milk

tarte-tatin dish, cast iron straight sided saucepan or similar
Preheat oven to 180C/gas 4, and put in a baking sheet to heat up.

Put cast iron fry pan, or tarte-tatin dish if you have one - on the hob over medium heat, and melt 50g of butter. Add the 150g of sugar, stir, then empty in the cranberries and turn to coat in the syrupy liquid. Set aside.

Put flour, salt, cinnamon, 150g sugar, 125g butter and the eggs in the food processor and blitz to combine. Pulse while you add enough milk down the funnel to make a soft, dropping batter. Pour over the berries in the pan, and transfer immediately to the heated baking sheet in the oven.

Cook for 30 minutes, or until the cake is bouncy, gold and risen, and beginning to shrink back from the edges.

Take out of the oven and place a plate on top of the pan. Turn upside down and lift the pan off. Be careful here - it's easy to burn yourself.

Serve warm with creme fraiche or ice creamÂ…Yummy! Razz

Hi Jove, I am sorry to say; although there is no cure for herpes, some drugs have been effective in reducing the frequency and duration of outbreaks. It might be a good idea to discuss options with your doctor.

During an outbreak, keep the infected area as clean and dry as possible. This will help your natural healing processes. Some doctors recommend warm showers in order to cleanse the infected area. Afterwards, towel dry gently, or dry the area with a hair dryer on a low or cool setting. To prevent chaffing, some people also find it helpful to avoid tight-fitting undergarments. Most creams and lotions do no good and may even irritate.

However; Isoniplex (Isoprinosine) is already available in over 56 countries. Most countries have approved it for use in HSV infections due to its antiviral action, and more significantly, the ability to stimulate the body's immune response. Isoniplex is currently under investigational trials for HSV primary and recurrent cases in the United States.

I hope that helps.

I was told you were smart! Very Happy

Let z equal the greatest common denominator of x and y.
If the y/x is an integer then the answer is y/x, otherwise it is y/z.

You and your partner in crime are both arrested and questioned separately. You are offered a chance to confess, in which you agree to testify against you partner, in exchange for all charges being dropped against you, unless he testifies against you also.

Your lawyer, whom you trust, says that the evidence against both of you, if neither confesses, is scant and you could expect to take a plea and each serve 3 years.

If one implicates the other, the other can expect to serve 20 years.

If both implicate each other you could each expect to serve 10 years.

You assume the probability of your partner confessing is p.

Your highest priority is to keep yourself out of the pokey, and your secondary motive is to keep you partner out. Specifically you are indifferent to you serving x years and your partner serving 2x years.

At what value of p are you indifferent to confessing and not confessing Question

That only works if y >= x. My solution works all cases.

I'm sure he will return soon, they can't keep him locked up forever. But, there are more pressing problems:

Any given length of highway is equally likely to have as many potholes as any other length of equal size.

The average number of potholes per mile of highway is 3.

What is the probability that 2 miles of highway have 3 or fewer potholes?
