YKW wrote, "If a person is shy when it comes to dancing,,, they could alway's dance in a club where only Tall people go.,,, or dance. ,,, or dance when only tall people are dancing.,,,."

I think they go to - Tallahassee

May I have the next dance; it's the Lambada! Razz

I'm just back from a trip to Nevada Bob's golf store; while I was waiting, a young thing by the name of Sue-Anne came out from the changing room sporting a pair of check Daks Bermudas. The first thing she said was, "Does my butt look big in these?" Naturally I was willing to offer an opinion (if I could force my eyes from her bouncy rack) at this point her mom stood up and blocked my view…

Being a natural romantic; I wondered; Is a number larger with a bigger base or a bigger exponent?

If n > k, then is k^n bigger, or is n^k Question

BTW While prostitution is legal in some parts of Nevada, it's not in Ohio. You have been warned!!!

BTW II Before ya'll start accusing me of being a wuss golfer; I was only there robbing the place! Arrow

[size=7]
Well, that depends.

If 0 < k < n <e> k^n.
If e <= k < n, then n^k < k^n.

If 0 < k < e < n, then it depends on k and n.

Mark:

If n > k, then is k^n bigger, or is n^k?

Well, that depends. Shocked

What sort of answer is that???.......

As it happens - the right one!!! Cool Cool

(Mark continues)

If 0 < k < n <e> k^n.
If e <= k < n, then n^k < k^n.

If 0 < k < e < n, then it depends on k and n. Cool Cool

It seems that in most cases a larger exponent creates a larger number, but not always.

2^3 is greater than 3^2
(2.5)^2 is less than 2^(2.5)
30.00001^30 is less than 30^(30.00001), etc.

It seemed to be that the larger exponent returned the larger number in every case with a few exceptions. I could not, however, figure out the "rule" to know what the exceptions are.

For example, we can tell graphically that 2^1000000 is greater than 1000000^2, but why? Is there a general rule about this?

It turns out that it's not easy to determine which will be larger.
If we can take the inequality

a^b > b^a

and raise each side to the 1/(ab) power, which will not change the inequality as long as we are only using positive numbers:

(a^b)^[1/(ab)] > (b^a)^[1/(ab)]

a^[b/(ab)] > b^[a/(ab)]

a^(1/a) > b^(1/b)

Thus the power with x as the base will be larger when x^(1/x) is larger.

Nice one Mark. Razz

Miss mi our Southern Belle writes from her plantation, "Would love a beer! Where's the Red Rooster anyway?"

Today, Red Rooster has over 360 stores and employs around 5000 staff across Australia. Just ask Dutchy... Laughing

TTH writes in support of others while failing to mention her own troubles, which were caused when a neighbors tree came crashing down in her yard. Had she been outside by the pool applying oil over her hot suntanned body; the results could have been hard to imagine (but I will give it a go). Very Happy

YKW AKA Squirrel Nutkin writes, "ARE YOU NUTS!~"

If I may quote Mark, "Well, that depends." Laughing

"Try i am going to make you my (ykw's) Husband"

Just don't put me down on any tax return, the IRS want to hang me out to dry.

"(main frames). o.k.?"

Sure, whatever!

You know who continued, "i'm lethargic and can't snap out of it!"

Have you been dressing up in latex again? Razz

Thoh:

1980......they will be 45 years old in the year 2025 (45*45) Cool

Soooo close, yet………..(Although it can be read both ways)

20th century; the years will be nineteen hundreds, from 1901 to 1999.

"He would be x years old in year x*x"
This means the year in 20th century when he was x years old was square of his age. let's make some guess:

10: 10*10=200 (no) ; 100 :100*100= 10,000 (no)
it should be between 10 and 100 :

30*30= 900(no) 40*40 =1600 (no) 50*50=2500 (no)

now narrow the years between 40 and 50:
42*42=1764(no), 47*47= 2205 (no); 45*45= 2025(no) 44*44=1936 (yes)

so in 1936, he would be 44 years old.
