Circumscribe a semi-circle around a right triangle with the hypotenuse as a diameter. Now draw semi-circles with the legs as diameters so they form bulges on the triangle. What is the area of the region inside the smaller semi-circles, but outside the large semi-circle, IN TERMS OF the area of the triangle Question

It is the area of the triangle.

Call the legs a and b, and the hypotenuse c. The area in question is:

(pi/8) * (a^2 + b^2 - c^2) + ab/2

but since the triangle is right, a^2 + b^2 - c^2 = 0
therefore, the area in question is ab/2, which is the area of the triangle

cute problem!

Cool

the area of the crescents is
area of smaller semicricles + area of triangle - area large semicircle =
[(pi(a/2)^2)/2 + (pi(b/2)^2)/2] + ab/2 - (pi(c/2)^2)/2 =
(pi/8) * (a^2 + b^2 - c^2) + ab/2 = ab/2 = area of triangle

You should be more careful, mainly about the last part..

Hi all, thanks for all the cards, flowers and messages to stay away. I would also like to thank Dr, Francis Spock and nurse TTH.

However, although my earlier diagnosis was correct, due to a typographical irregularity, it should have read:

"I have Halle Berry all over me….. like a rash"

Hi YKW, I thought the first picture was St George slaying the dragon; but the second is my old friend Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci. Cool

Ps. The weather is, hot, dry and sunny (or so I have been told).

See ya!

Have you noticed that most people who are sex experts have marks all over them from people touching them with ten foot poles? Cool

Amen.
