Stuh:

Toro Super Recycler burnout
M = (N+1)/2
=> N = 2M-1

M +3-5+7+6 = N
=> M = N-11

=> N = 2(N-11)-1
=> N = 23

Answer 23 Cool Cool

Now that's what I call clever! Razz

Assume that the ladder had x rungs , if he started from the middle rung of the ladder, he was at (x+1)/2 rungs away from the ground; when he climbed up 3 steps , he would be at (x+1)/2 + 3 a ways from the ground; when he backed down to 5 rungs , he was at (x+1)/2 + 3-5 rungs away from the ground....when he finally went up to the building, he finished all the rungs of the ladder:
(x+1)/2 + 3-5+7+6 = x
solve for x:
x+1+ 22 = 2x
23= x: so the ladder had 23 rungs.

TTH:

"Heck I don't know"
"don't you know"
"No"

Well, that clears up that mystery. Laughing Laughing Laughing

Stormy, "Only here in America we spell it... center of gravity." Shocked

Sorry, I don't speak French, you must live on the East coast. Laughing

Your greatest wish is to construct a closed rectangular box that has the volume of 4 cubic feet. The length of the box will be twice as long as its width.

The material for the top and bottom of the box cost $.30 cents per square foot. The material for the sides of the box cost $.20 cents per square foot.

What is the dimension of the least expensive box that can be constructed Question

Hi Try, i drew a couple of pics of ^ and they came out pretty good! One for a hemophodite named Naomie and one for a girl named Angel,, lucky them. I might try again to draw ^ portrait in pencil with a hint of colour. How's the calligraphy comming along :-). I happened upon a caligraphy book at Portsmouth Library (N.H.) that reminded me of you. ;-)

I hope and pray that every evil being has a melt down everytime they think in a Godless way. Amen.

Not for the first time, I have a sneaking suspicion you may be right; let me check:

V = 4
length = 2 * width

30 cents/sq foot for top and bottom
20 cents/sq foot for sides
V = lwh

Area = top + bottom + sides
Area = length * width + length * width + width * height + width * height + length * height + length * height
Cost = 30 (2 length * width) + 20 (2 width * height + length * height)
Cost = 60 length * width + 40 width * height + 40 length * height
4 = length * width * height
4 = 2 width * width * height

height = 2 / width^2
Cost = 60 * 2 width * width + 40 width * 2 / width^2 + 40 * 2 width * 2 / width^2
Cost = 120 w^2 + 80 / w + 160 / w = 120 w^2 + 240 / w
dC / dw = 240 w - 240 / w^2

Set this equal to zero and solve for w
240 w - 240 / w^2 = 0
w = 1/w^2
w^3 = 1

width = 1 foot
length = 2 feet
height = 2 feet

Cost = 60 + 60 + 40 + 40 + 80 + 80 = 360 cents or $3.60
How about that! Razz

The correct siblings = The Wright Brothers Cool

Christmas yellow belly = Noel Coward Cool

Stormy, "Yeah, I'm from the east coast of France" "I drew a couple of pics…" Very Happy

That's good, but not the one…

"How's the calligraphy coming along?"
