Try says, "I was really hoping to see a shooting star tonight. If we are only out for 10 minutes, we will only have a 15% chance."

Clamity-Jane replies, "That is so not true dumb ass, we have a far better chance than that."

Ah, don't you love those terms of endearment?!! Laughing
Of course, I am always right!!!

If there is a 10 % chance that we DON'T see a shooting star, then
you're not seeing one for 6 ten-minute periods, so x is not seeing a
shooting star is 0.1=x^6
x = 0.6813 or around 32 %

0 since (x-x) is a term

1/12345 since all but the first numerator cancel out all but the last denominator

Go Ravens:

Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered weak and weary,
Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore,
While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,
As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door.
`'Tis some visitor,' I muttered, `tapping at my chamber door -
Only this, and nothing more.'

Ah, distinctly I remember it was in the bleak December,
And each separate dying ember wrought its ghost upon the floor.
Eagerly I wished the morrow; - vainly I had sought to borrow
From my books surcease of sorrow - sorrow for the lost Lenore -
For the rare and radiant maiden whom the angels named Lenore -
Nameless here for evermore.

And the silken sad uncertain rustling of each purple curtain
Thrilled me - filled me with fantastic terrors never felt before;
So that now, to still the beating of my heart, I stood repeating
`'Tis some visitor entreating entrance at my chamber door -
Some late visitor entreating entrance at my chamber door; -
This it is, and nothing more,'

"What do you call an intelligent, good looking, sensitive man?"

C-J, PJ and TTH have to travel 30 miles. They have one bicycle, which can only carry one person at a time. The bicycle travels at 10 miles an hour, and the people travel at 5 miles an hour. The three people all need to get to their destination as soon as possible in order to carry out a task that requires all of them to present. (The task in question is on a need to know basis) :wink:

What is the most efficient way to get all three people over the distance as quickly as possible Question

C-J rides the bike all the way in 3 hrs. In that time, PJ and TTH moved up 15 miles. C-J gets someone (person A) to ride the bike back to PJ and TTH. Person A rides back for 1hr (10 miles - PJ and TTH move up 5 miles in 1hr so they are 10 miles away.) Now PJ takes the bike to the destination in 1hr. TTH moved up 5 more miles (5 miles from end). PJ gets someone else (person B) to ride the bike back to TTH. Takes 20 min - meets TTH 10/3 miles from the end (TTH moved up 5/3 miles in 20min). Then TTH rides to destination in 20min. Total time: 5hrs 40min. Hardly seems worth it, since they could have just walked it in 6hrs.

BICYCLE
To arrive at the same time, they must share the bike equally. The first person rides for 10 miles, leaves the bike, and walks the rest of the way. The second person walks for 10 miles, rides for 10 miles, leaves the bike, and walks the rest of the way. The third person walks for 20 miles, and rides the rest of the way. Each person walks 20 miles (4 hours) and rides 10 miles (1 hour). Total time is 5 hours.

Way too long. I've tried it in 5 mile increments and thought we'd arrive
closer in time, yet each of us would walk 5 hours, regardless.
