A boys own page? That is so not fair since my post or any post for that matter would go to the next page Evil or Very Mad

After much debate, I can at last reveal the correct answer to the number question…

Mark:

8,549,176,320
The digits are in alphabetical order. Cool

Rap:

8,549,176,320=2^10*3^2*5*61843

All 10 named numbers alphabetically arranged. Cool

How about that, so they are. Laughing

TTH:

The number was so easy even TTH said she knew. Laughing

Any STPOOTRTM = MOST TRY TO NAP? (But she didn't know this)

Mark continued/ But he did!

Any STPOOTRTM = any port in a storm Cool

danue csowuerrsse = answers in due course Cool

I don't know how he does it. Razz

The continuing saga of big city folk… Shocked

TTH "…you are still my favorite you know. Just don't tell Thoh okay"

Thoh, "I heard that!"

TTH, "Let me re-phrase that... So, Thoh when is our next date?"

I know what you are thinking; do TTH and Thoh make out? Embarrassed

Well…

...TTH and Thoh agree to meet at the Buckingham fountain in Grant Park, next to the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago (Yeah, like I believe that, down some dark alley most likely).

Anyhow, they agree to each show up some random time between 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM. Wait 20 minutes for the other person, or until one o'clock, whichever comes first.

Assuming they stick to their word, what is the probability that they will meet Question

That was my answer because you already said the # is the only one of its kind. That makes it unique then. I never said I knew the "number" Razz Laughing Laughing Laughing

Since when does a number ending in 3 times a number ending in 7 result in a number ending in 0?

Time to get a new calculator...

Ahaha...my silly Ti83, apparently it was not displaying the extra digits but keeping track of them!

Code:
: 8549176320/7
= 1221310903
: Ans*7
= 8549176320
: 1221310903*7
= 8549176321

BUCKINGHAM FOUNTAIN
[size=8]5/9

The diagonals intersect the axes 1/3 of the way between 12:00 and 1:00. Inside the diagonal bar represents them meeting. The sum of the areas of the triangles is 4/9; so the diagonal is 5/9.

Buenos días, we're talking oysters, (you know what they say about oysters don't you? Razz ) you can get your fill of them at Casey Moore's on Sundays, when the Gulf of Mexico bivalves go for $8 a dozen. Then…..

Sure, why not I thought; to hell with the cost, so I ordered; lobster thermidor quesadilla, oaxacan cheese and cream inside a griddled tortilla, accompanied by mango salsa.

Followed by a thick slice of Huckleberry pie. Very Happy

Francis wrote, (and those French know a bit about food, or so it is said) "Is that the new riddle?"

Heck no the recipe has been in the family for ages:

My recipe for said pie:
Ingredients

1-9" pastry shell
4 c. washed huckleberries
3/4 c. water
3 Tbsp. corn starch
1 c. sugar
lemon juice
whipped cream or ice cream

Simmer 1 c. berries with water for 3-4 minutes. Combine corn starch and sugar, then add to cooking berries. Simmer slowly until syrup is thick and clear ruby red. When thickened add lemon (1 tsp-1tbsp depending on berry sweetness) cool slightly. Line pastry shell with 3 c. berries, pour the slightly cooled glaze over the raw berries. Mix gently with a fork to coat the fresh berries. Chill thoroughly. Serve with whipped cream or ice cream. Serves 6-8.

TTH wrote, "Would you believe me if I told you at first I wrote- ANY STORM PORT"

Sure, we all do! But: Any STPOOTRTM = 'Any port (in) (a) storm'.

"Mark, I don't understand your explanation to the probability question"

That makes two of us, if anyone does, I'll buy them a drink.

graph explanation:

Both axes represent time. The x-axis is time for the person x; the y-axis is time for person y.

Pick a point in the square. The x-coordinate is when person x arrives; the y-coordinate is when person y arrives. Using that point as the bottom left corner, create a smaller square that is 20 minutes by 20 minutes. If that smaller square intersects the line x=y (main diagonal of larger square), the people will meet.

That's the best I can do.

I think this sounds delicious. Thanks for reminding me.

Ms Paula's Aipple Tert

The bakin' at oor village show's the best ye've ivver seen.
Fowk come frae far an' near, frae ilka airt.
But listen till I tell ye a' aboot ma guid aul' freen,
An' the tale o' Ms Paula's aipple tert.

Pair Ms Paula took it as an unco fashious slight
That her pastry nivver seemed tae mak' the grade.
For the judges didna even cut a slice tae hae a bite
O' the aipple tert that Ms Paula made.

It wis in an' oot the freezer wis Ms Paula's pie,
Sma' wunner that ma freen wis losin' hert.
It nivver won a mention an' the judges passed it by.
Whit could be wrang wi' Ms Paula's tert?

'I doot,' said Mrs Thomson, ' that the judges must hae kent
Her d'oyley' (upon which the tert wis laid).
For in ivvery flooer show roon aboot, the plate wis evident
Wi' the aipple tert that Ms Paula made.

Last spring the frost had nipped the blossom: aipples there were nane.
Dame Nature cam' tae Ms Paula's aid.
For naebody had ony fruit, an' so it stood alane,
The aipple tert that Ms Paula made.

Her aipple tert wis nae the best, nor wis it yet the worst.
But by itssel' an' in a class apairt.
Sae the judges had nae option an' they had tae pit it first
And gie the prize tae Ms Paula's tert.

She wis a happy wumman: she wis quite puffed up wi' pride.
Ower the triumph that pit ithers in the shade.
She'd be mentioned in the paper, tellin' fowk the coonty wide
O' the aipple tert that Ms Paula made.

The show wis ower: she picked it up and went tae tak' it hame.
'We'll hae this tae oor Sunday tea,' she said.
An' she proodly gethered up the winnin' ticket wi' her name
Aside the tert that Ms Paula made.

Bit then, pride aften gangs afore a fa', o' that I'm shair.
She drapt the plate, an' crash! Awa' it gaed.
It lay in near a hunner wee bit pieces on the flair,
The aipple tert that Ms Paula made. Sad

Meaning of unusual words:

frae ilka airt=from every part
unco fashious=very vexacious
d'oyley=a small round piece of linen or paper placed under a dish or bowl
aside=beside
gaed=went
