Mark:

Positive integers equal to the sum of the cubes of the digits in its square, plus the digits in its cube?

A tough question like that must have a beastly answer! Cool Cool

6662 = 443556
6663 = 295408296
while at the same time,
(43 + 43 + 33 + 53 + 53 + 63) + (2+9+5+4+0+8+2+9+6) = 666.

Anyone for A Coffee, form an orderly (woops nearly typed orally) line….

Li'l Etc, "it's the thought that counts"

I sure am thinking I'm counting Razz

I can't stand this, so I take a long rope; tie it to the bottom of the goal post at one end of a football field. Then run it across the length of the field (120 yards) to a goal post at the other end. Stretch it tightly, and then tie it to the bottom of that goal post, so that it lies flat against the ground. Then…

If it's not too late for coffee
I'll be at your place in ten
We'll hit that all night diner
And then we'll see...
Coffee Lyrics
Artist(Band):Copeland

Now suppose that I add just 1 inch (I will say that again: ONE INCH) of slack to the rope, so that now I can lift it off the ground at the 50-yard line.

How high can I lift it up Question

No! The rope

Please note that this rope never enters Mexico, the sea or Canada. It is not brave, just a frayed knott.

Etc was recently hired at our office. Her first task was to go out for coffee.

Eager to do well her first day on the job, she grabbed a large thermos and hurried to a nearby coffee shop.

She held up the thermos and the coffee shop worker quickly came over to take her order.

"Is this big enough to hold six cups of coffee?" she asked.

The coffee shop worker looked at the thermos, hesitated a few seconds, then finally replied, "Yeah. It looks like about six cups to me."

"Oh good!" she sighed in relief. "I'll have two regular, two black, and two cappuccinos."

This is MKILLGE Question

97 X 96=?

97+?=100 96+? = 100
......3..............4
SUBTRACT CROSSWAYS 97 - 4 = 93. 96-3 = 93

FIRST PART OF ANSWER IS 93

MULTIPLY THE 3 AND 4
3x4=12
SECOND PART OF ANSWER IS 12

97 X 96 = 9312

7 X 8
7+ 3 =10
8+2 = 10
CROSS SUBTRACT
8-3 = 5
7-2 = 5
2X3 =6
56

DOES THIS PATTERN HOLD TRUE ACROSS A RANGE OF NUMBERS?

Consider (10^n - P) * (10^n - Q)

In your first example, n = 2, P = 3, Q = 4.
In your second example, n = 1, P = 3, Q = 2.

The product is 10^(2n) - (P+Q)*10^n + PQ
= 10^n * (10^n - P - Q) + PQ

(10^n - P - Q) is the crossways subtraction (first part of answer).
10^n shifts the first part to the left n digits.
PQ is the multiplication (second part of answer).

As long as (P+Q) doesn't exceed 10^n (otherwise crossways subtraction would be negative) and PQ contains exactly n digits (to fill the space left by shifting the first part of the answer), things work out nicely as in your examples.

However, if you position the two parts properly and take the sign into account, it always works.

Example 1 (PQ has fewer than n digits):
99 * 97
99+1=100, 97+3=100
99-3 = 97-1 = 96 (add 2 zeros since n=2 to get 9600)
1*3=3
9600 + 3 = 9603
99 * 97 = 9603

Example 2 (PQ has more than n digits):
7 * 6
7+3=10, 6+4=10
7-4 = 6-3 = 3 (add 1 zero since n=1 to get 30)
3*4=12
30 + 12 = 42
7 * 6 = 42

Example3 (P+Q > 10^n):
6 * 3
6+4=10, 3+7=10
6-7 = 3-4 = -1 (add 1 zero since n=1 to get -10)
4*7=28
-10 + 28 = 18
6 * 3 = 18

So, yes it holds, but not always as nicely as your examples.
