"Can I pick a 'score' for the Red Sox tonight?"

Sorry, I am not familiar with the Little League, however if they wear red socks, they must look cute and I have them down for a win. Razz Laughing Laughing Laughing

TTH wrote, yabba dabba …"OMG That is so unfair. I was in the middle of answering and you got your post in before I did. Do you realize how much work that is to copy and do the individual quotes and do all that stuff?"

Thankfully no. I can't do all that fancy stuff, looks good though! Razz

Thoh:

Gus = 53.4 Cool and TTH = 35.6 Cool
G + T = 89... G - x = T... T/2 = T - x... T = 2x... G = 3x... x = 17.8... T = 35.6... G = 53.4

Looks like I got the names mixed up! Laughing

In a 4?-4 square with the middle four blocks missing, (only the outside blocks remain) you have to get from X (top Right) to Y (bottom Left) moving only along the black lines of the blocks.

How many different shortest routes are there from X to Y Question

TIME/2 SCORE Question

1+1 LIB Question

Red Sox:
I might be at Fenway Park on Friday, how will I recognize you, what will you have written on your t shirt?

Oh, that will be easy: 6 foot with beard in dreads, patch over me left eye, peg-leg with a parrot on me shoulder. Wearing a Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim winners shirt. Word on the streets is; it will be a full house, so I guess there will just be the two of us there. BTW The parrot is called Henry in case you go getting me confused with Calico Jack.

Go LAA! Laughing

Huh? How can there be black lines of the "blocks"?
Isn't a 4 x 4 square 4 lines with nothing in the middle? What does blocks have to do with it? Are you saying a 4 x 4 square is considered a block?
If so then why ask block(s) < plural ? I am totally Confused Confused

4x4 SQUARE
I get 34 Cool Cool

Way to go buddy!

We first note that a shortest path must always move to the right and up, never left or down. We begin in the upper-right corner and proceed back to the lower-left corner, counting the number of paths from the point in question to the upper-right corner. There is one shortest "path" from the upper right corner to itself.

Now any shortest path starting at a point must first move up or right if possible. The number of such paths will be the sum of the number of such paths starting at the point above it (if there is one) and the number of such paths starting at the point to the right of it (if there is one). As we go from upper-right to lower-left writing the sum of the numbers above and to the right, we obtain the total number of paths we seek is 34.

Yes, I have used a variation of this problem before. Pascal's Triangle is visible in the upper right hand corner. If I had inserted the four connecting lines in the middle, it would have been clearer that Pascal's Triangle was at work here.

halftime score Cool
