[size=8]GUM BALLS
There are zero gun balls.
The number of gum balls could be:
1 red, 1 blue, 3 yellow
2 red, 2 blue, 2 yellow
3 red, 3 blue, 1 yellow

BEAR
Are you sure it wasn't a penguin?

Mark:

Could it possibly be: ACRES, CARES, RACES, SCARE Cool

Quiet possibly

GUM BALLS
There are zero gun balls. (Cute) Laughing

The number of gum balls could be:
1 red, 1 blue, 3 yellow
2 red, 2 blue, 2 yellow
3 red, 3 blue, 1 yellow
Cool

(Even cuter)
I had it as; 2 red, 2 blue, 2 yellow. However, I take your point.

BEAR
Are you sure it wasn't a penguin? Shocked Razz

The directions are true, only if it happened in the North Pole. Therefore, the color of the bear is - white.

I hope you and Shari had a good time in Chicago, perhaps now you will believe me that the A2K meeting was last month.

"What" said Shari is the least value of 3x + 4y if x2y3 = 6 Question

What day of the week was January 12, 1979 Question

A garrison of 3300 men has provisions for 32 days, when given at a rate of 850 grams per head. At the end of 7 days a reinforcement arrives and it was found that now the provisions will last 8 days less, when given at the rate of 825 grams per head.

How, many more men can it feed Question

Try: Congratulations on hitting 5000. You've been a busy boy lately. The missus must be having to go elsewhere for satisfaction.

"The directions are true, only if it happened in the North Pole." Hmmm.
Different question: Given those directions, what is the probability that their starting point was within 2000 miles of a bear?

[size=8]CALENDAR
Friday

PROVISIONS
The reinforcement consisted of 1700 men.

LEAST VALUE
If the problem is to find the least value of 3*x + 4*y such that (x^2)*(y^3)=6, then there is no minimum.

As y approaches zero from above, x=-sqrt(6/(y^3)) approaches negative infinity.

Tie me to a hog and call her Daisy May, I credited Mark with:

"Could it possibly be: ACRES, CARES, RACES, SCARE?"

When in fact all the kudos belongs to our very own centrefold babe; Butterfly. Cool

Please accept my apologies for this gross oversight, you are absolutely correct.
A mark will be deducted from Marks mark. Twisted Evil I thank the management for bringing this miscarriage of justice to my attention.

Butterfly walks 5/6 of her usual rate, and is 40 minutes late. What is the usual time for her trip Question

You didn't answer my bear question. Rolling Eyes

LEAST VALUE
if 3x=10, then as y approaches negative infinity, 3x+4y approaches negative infinity. I think we should bury this one.

BALLS
Set aside one green and one blue. There are now 5 choices for green (0-4), 4 choices for blue (0-3), and 4 choices for red (0-3). Therefore, the total is 5*4*4 = 80.

PIPES
167 minutes (reminds me of snails and wells)

LATE BUTTERFLY
240 minutes

You didn't answer my bear question. Shocked

"Given those directions, (They walk 10 km south, then 10 km east. Then they walk 10 km north and get back at their camp, exactly where they left.) What is the probability that their starting point was within 2000 miles of a bear?"

Actually, the bear could go west two or five kilometers and it would not make any difference -- the bear would be making a circle around the North Pole. East and West you travel along parallels which are circles equidistant from the poles. North and South you travel along meridians which are circles that cross both the north and the south poles.

There is another way to go south, west and north one kilometer and end up at the original point without starting at the North Pole*. Start 1 + 1/(2π) kilometers (approx. 1.16Km) from the South Pole. Walk one kilometer south, then one kilometer west (which is a 1 Km circle around the South Pole), and finally, one kilometer north to the starting point. However, there are no bears in Antarctica; there are only penguins.

I seem to remember you gave the definitive answer to a similar question some time back. I was so impressed that I made a copy, unfortunately that is at another office. However, I am sure you would not mind enlightening us.

I have, wait for itÂ…3720. This made perfect sense at the time, but then, so does your answer.

Exactly.

Of the words listed below, one is "odd man out." This has

As irrational as I can be,
Though it sounds quite insane,
When I'm squared, you'll obtain,

DIRECTIONS
Assuming each possible starting position is equally likely to be chosen, the probablility of being within 2000 miles of a bear is zero. There are an infinite number of starting locations near the south pole - only one at the north pole.

[size=8]ODD MAN OUT
How about ream? It's the only one that doesn't form a word when the last letter is removed.

6 FACES, 21 EYES
a die

SMALL LETTER
Hmmm. 0 and -1 satisfy the last two lines, but not the first two.

Goliath's challenger... Cool

(His cryptic answer is better than the riddle) Laughing

DAVID (Roman numerals)

... David offers to go and fight the Philistine challenger Goliath. ... After knocking Goliath down, David uses Goliath's own sword to kill and behead him. ...

Francis mon ami, you are so quick, the ink was hardly dry. Razz

Mark:
