Laugh no more… Twisted Evil

Let's borrow notation from LaTeX and let "^" denote exponentiation, so that x^2 means "x squared".

Consider the numbers 1233 = 12^2 + 33^2, and 990100 = 990^2 + 100^2.

Is it possible to find an eight-digit number N with the same property, namely that if you break N into two four-digit numbers B and C, and add their squares, you recover N Question

(N really has to have eight digits; its leading digit is not zero. B is the number formed by the first our digits of N, and C is the number formed by the last four digits of N.)

Size matters!

Q 4:

At this size, insects look big enough to be a threat to you. Which of the following is NOT an insect Question

Oops! You just got a lot smaller and fell into a drop of water. You can just barely see single-celled organisms all around you. Like you, they seem to be moving around at random. What effect is causing this erratic movement Question

Brownian Motion
Einstein's Theory of Relativity
Newton's Laws of Inertia
The Heisenberg Uncertainty Priniciple

Q 6:

Soon you are small enough to make out the individual shapes of the micro-organisms that share your tiny world. There goes one with a long, whip-like tail that it uses to move along. What is it Question

Q4 fleas have eight legs therefore not an insect.

Q5 Brownian motion..... except that temparature differentials act on the water molecules to increase/ decrease pressure on the single celled creature. So newtons law of inertia has a role here. (I think?)

Q6 Trypanosome gambiense watch out for this one its nasty

Swimming is not a sport? tell that to the "Thorpedo"

There are 3 reasons Australians produces graet swimmers. Bull sharks, Tiger sharks, and Great Whites.

Eeeek! That was supposed to keep you occupied all day, not just breakfast.

Mark's happiness is proportional to the function w2*c (w squared * c), where w stands for daily consumption of glasses of wine, and c stands of daily consumption of number of cigars. Wine costs $3 a glass and cigars cost $2 each. His daily budget for both is $100. Shocked

How should he divide his money between wine and cigars to maximize his happiness Question

Assume he does not have to buy integer numbers of either cigars or wine.

One morning is starts to snow at a constant rate. Later, at 6:00am, a snow plow sets out to clear a straight street. The plow can remove a fixed volume of snow per unit time, in other words its speed it inversely proportional to the depth of the snow. If the plow covered twice as much distance in the first hour as the second hour.

What time did it start snowing Question

Eeep! Arrrgh! Mawwwwahh!

As I don't know how to draw this; imagine 4 matchsticks forming a glass in the shape of a straight sided Y, with a horizontal bar. Like a goalpost.
The olive 'o' is inside the glass.

Move two of these matches so that the olive is outside the martini glass. The shape of the glass must remain unaltered.

I hope you publish the proper way to solve the urn/balls problem. Creating a state machine was easy, but I don't know how to turn that into an expression (infinite series).

I added an n. Based on the example, rearrangement seems legit. I suspect the rules are not clearly defined.

Oh no. I thought you would come up with something else.

I seem to have a problem trying to simplify the following:

sqrt ( 3 - sqrt 5 ) + sqrt ( 4 + sqrt 7 ) + sqrt ( 6 - sqrt 35 )

Any offers Question

Remember this?

A man leaves his office every day at 5:00, takes the commuter train and arrives at his hometown depot at 6:00. His wife arrives at the depot at 6:00, in their car, and drives him home. This is everyday procedure.

One day, he leaves his office at 4:00 instead of the usual 5:00, neglects to inform his wife, and arrives at the depot at 5:00 instead of 6:00. He decides to walk home. On the way home he meets his wife, who is driving to pick him up at the usual 6:00. He gets in the car, they drive home and arrive 20 minutes earlier than usual.

How long, in minutes, did he walk Question
