I was born just up the road in DC, USA
It was a small, Catholic hospital, I was told later. I was too young to remember. It was right at the end of WW2 and the only story I ever heard from my now deceased mother regarded the water glass next to her bed. It was an empty jelly jar recycled for a new purpose.
