On newbies, many are savvy. Some of us weren't. I do agree with care toward the very young and sometimes that is hard to tell. Well, I agree with care to everybody, hardshelled as we seem we are all vulnerable people who can be hurt. I think it is good if people get to know fairly quickly that they are welcome even if 23 people disagree with them about whatsit.
On makemeshiver, she isn't a newbie anymore nor is Onyxelle, who became an oldie after about five minutes by force of personality. They probably already have stories to tell about being here.
