@CalamityJane,
So it's now 11.24 pm local time and I don't imagine there will be any more hobgoblins coming to my door.
Two years ago about a dozen kids came looking for treats. I had, by chance, made up a dozen bags of candy. Last year I made up two dozen bags, to be on the safe side. About 30 kids turned up. This year, determined not to be caught short, I made up 48 bags. Ten kids. The last four were by accident - they were walking past my house when a sudden storm hit. There is a tree in my front yard and no fence, so they all rushed under it.
Remembering all the dire warnings about sheltering under trees in storms, and not particularly looking forward to fried children everywhere, I yelled out to them and their minder to "get the hell in here" and opened the door for them. Four bedraggled critters and somebody's mother piled in. Their eyes nearly popped out of their heads as they scored three or four bags each. The storm ceased as suddenly as it started and off they went.
I still have 20 bags of candy and no one to eat them...
