If I had a million dollars (If I had a million dollars)
Well I’d buy you a house (I’d buy you a house)
And if I had a million dollars (If I had a million dollars)
I’d buy you furniture for your house (maybe a nice chesterfield or an ottoman)
And if I had a million dollars (If I had a million dollars)
Well I’d buy you a K-Car (a nice reliant automobile)
And if I had a million dollars, I’d buy your love

If I had a million dollars (I’d build a tree-fort in our yard)
If I had a million dollars (you could help, it wouldn’t be that hard)
If I had a million dollars (maybe we could put a little tiny fridge in there somewhere.)
“You know, we could just go up there and hang out.”
“Like open the fridge and stuff, and there’d be all the foods laid out for us like little pre-wrapped sausages and things. They have pre-wrapped sausages but they don’t have pre-wrapped bacon.”
“Well can you blame them?”
“Yeah.”

If I had a million dollars (If I had a million dollars)
Well I’d buy you a fur coat (but not a real fur coat, that’s cruel)
And if I had a million dollars (If I had a million dollars)
Well I’d buy you an exotic pet (yep, like a llama or an emu)
And if I had a million dollars (If I had a million dollars)
Well I’d buy you John Merrick’s remains (all them crazy elephant bones)
And if I had a million dollars I’d buy your love

If I had a million dollars (we wouldn’t have to walk to the store)
If I had a million dollars (we’d take a limousine ’cause it costs more)
If I had a million dollars (we wouldn’t have to eat Kraft dinner)
“But we would eat Kraft dinner.”
“Of course we would, we’d just eat more.”
“And have really expensive ketchups with it.”
“That’s right, all the fanciest, like Dijon ketchup.”

If I had a million dollars (If I had a million dollars)
Well I’d buy you a green dress (but not a real green dress that’s cruel)
And if I had a million dollars (If I had a million dollars)
Well I’d buy you some art (A Picasso or a Garfunkel)
And if I had a million dollars (If I had a million dollars)
Well I’d buy you a monkey (haven’t you always wanted a monkey?!)
And if I had a million dollars I’d buy your love

If I had a million dollars; if I had a million dollars
If I had a million dollars; if I had a million dollars
If I had a million dollars… I’d be rich!

@Armanarora,
I'd buy a studio apartment in NYC and save the rest of the money in a bank account using the interest to help pay the monthly maintenance and taxes.

I'd never have to worry about having a roof over my head again.

$1,000,000 as a lottery win that is given as an annuity means a real dollar income of $35,000 for 20 years.

I'm 63. If I were to win that now, I would quit my liquor store job but continue to teach, just two classes a semester. I would have more time for developing my fiction, for quilting and other sewing and for my garden. That would be nice.

In reality, $1,000,000 isn't all that much as Austin Powers pointed out in, I believe, the second film.

@plainoldme,
i'd hope for a lottery win too, in Canada winnings aren't taxed

i'd buy and or build a small place on the manitoulin island, i figure if i had about 800,000 left i could live off that for the rest of my life, with some investment

3,000 a month (roughly 100 a day) with no interest earned would last a bit over 22 years (takes me to 70), so any investment and my canada pension should be good (plus men in my family don't live much longer than that anyway)

I would give it back... The only way I would ever have that sort of money is by finding it, or stealing it...

Assuming I get to keep it all and not have to pay more than half in taxes, I'd quit my job. Hubby would need to keep working though because as others have said a million ain't as much as one thinks.

I'd sell the condo and buy a reasonable sized home (not too big) in a nicer town than where I currently live. I'd take some time off and then work at something I'd prefer to do that would not pay me much, but allow time so I can taxi the kids around to their sporting events.

Maybe I'd work at an animal shelter or work as a teacher. Teacher would keep me with the kids schedule and seeing I don't the money I'd try to teach at private school (most don't pay very well - but you get the bonus of a bit more freedom around your teaching style.)

@Linkat,
Oh - and I would give to charity in some way - either set up a scholorship fund for a needy child to go to a private school or some other interest I have - like to help animals.

That's tough to answer. I would have to think about that for little while. But, forcing myself to say something, I see giving my two boys and families a fair chunk, then taking a fine vacation with husband and whole family. Also, some to charity (kids & animals, or whatever else I'm forgetting).

I'd start a non-profit for troubled kids to try to get them on track for happy and successful lives. I'd probably try to work in some animal rescue as part of the therapy for the kids so I could combine my passion for both interests.

I'd also save some back for travel, especially Scotland, Greece and Italy.

Set up a website specifically for the development of dialectic as Plato understood it. To promote the Two-Element Metaphysics, i.e. Truth in thought.
If you want to improve mankind, supply the tools needed to that end.
I.e. Just expand my work already on the Internet Archive.

A co-worker who is a musician and I talked about what we do with an enormous lottery win. After securing my kids' in homes for the rest of their lives and setting up annuities for all of us, I would give every dairy farmer (I love cows) in this state a check for $1,000 to whittle down bills in which they are behind. Then I would set up a foundation that gives dairy farmers grants for improvements to their properties.

My co-worker would establish a music program along the lines of El Sistema, Venezuela's music program for children, which reaches out to children who live in slums.

Are you saying that you would just nonchalntly sock it to the bank, or wherever, joining the rest of your millions?

If I were to win real money, and not just a million, I would like boltholes in Boston and NYC with a regular home somewhere either just outside Concord, MA or in the Berkshires, complete with a dairy and a paid farmer to care for things.

My daughter and I had a long talk in the spring about how nice it would be to own a two-bedroom apartment in Manhattan for family use. Dream on, little dreamer, dream on!
