I'm not one to like Poodles either to be honest, although I know they can be really smart. I've never personally delt with one, though, so their personality might win me over more than their looks. He sounds like you have to keep an eye on him a lot.
Labs tend to be quiet, while Poodles are full of vigor. I've had one female and two male Poodles. Believe it or not, the males are more loving. The Poodle I have now is named Sammy and he is very sensitive to the feelings of humans and dogs.
He's also got many allergies and other skin problems. But, he's so smart and he's so loving that I can adjust myself to his skin problems. Right now he needs a hair cut and a good bath.
