It has got to have some idiot lights... Didn't they know who they were building it for???
Must be the starter. We had the same problem with our mini-van. Fixed the alternator, still had the same problem of not starting. So, duh, it was the starter. $400 later, we now can start the damn car. Runs great.
Good luck, shewolf

Im sure it does in the dash, but nothing has come on so I am inclined to just say no.

An alternator would make a light shine... A starter would not...
@Fido,
Ahhhhh
now THATs nice to know.
No lights went off on my dash.
But, the alternator was only putting out 6 amps. I know that means faulty . I no mechanic. But it does not sound like it was the ultimate issue. I agree.
And I just have to say.....
The car is repaired.
And the repair was free.
So I am very grateful today
VERY grateful
@shewolfnm,
you must have a guardian angel.
@chai2,
Thank goodness you're on the road again - yay!!! And what a bonus that it was free! Who'da thunk?
I have many.
And I think they got tired of having to walk with me in traffic. !
haha
@shewolfnm,
I think you probably mean, "they got tired of having to talk with me"
were you talking forks and haircuts in the same sentence?
@shewolfnm,
The fuses for the lights may have burnt out and need replacing.
@Fido,
Looks like that this forum site turned into a debate... :-) but I'm enjoying reading all the posts.

My name is discord... Has anyone seen my apple???
So what was the punch line? 'Cuz I used to have a '79 Datsun pickup thought would sometimes refuse to turn over -- solenoid was sticking or something. When that happened, I'd give it a whack or two with a ball peen hammer to shake it loose, start the truck, and drive off. At least until I'd saved up a few ducats to buy a reconditioned starter, which solved the problem entirely...
@patiodog,
I once had an '82 ford crewcab that almost turned over a couple of times.
