@RexRed,
defeating the first half life with no cheats is my crowning glory, couldn't get through #2 and the sequel episodes (1 & 2) without the odd health cheat

That is ridiculous you just stage the game on mars or alpha centari in the future and use fictitious forces... She is talking out of her arse... Yes there have to be bad guys but you don't have to set it in the middle of present day war like a turd.

In Red Alert 3 (another EA game) they went back in time and changed the future (assassinated Einstein) then they came back to the present so the forces would not be fighting actual Russian, Japanese and Americans but an alternate present reality... Even that was a bit insulting. Yes let's make a game and seemingly takes away America's glory of winning and ending the second world war. What kind of people are there at EA games? I think there is a question of good character and ethics. What kind of person would dream up making a time machine to go back and assassinate Einstein?

This EA game Call of Duty is lazy minded unimaginative game developers who wanted to make publicity by spitting in the face of our military and by glorifying and legitimizing Taliban terrorists... YAY let's join the Taliban! (cynical) The Taliban will NEVER equal the valor and honor of the US forces and our coalition...

Umm, NEWS FLASH EA games.... people are court marshaled and thrown in the brink for, err, "joining the Taliban"...

@djjd62,
That sounds about right. But even if there is such an option, so what? I can't stomach the loud-mouthed patriotic types. As Johnson said, patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel.

I know where you are coming from Set but their is the opposite side of the spectrum of subversives who have no consideration at all in a moderate patriotism. Only appeasement for the enemy... This is not a game it is a political statement...

To many Pushtuns, the Taliban represents a moderate patriotism. This is shaping up to be a discussion of whose ox has been gored.

The Taliban are terrorists... Their laws denigrate and terrorize free societies, or would you like to go live under their laws instead of here in the good ol' US of A? I have a heart just like the next guy but I can't stand fascist laws... BTW, welcome Setana to the discussion. Smile

@RexRed,
The taliban are a tribe, well, group, that we invigorated.

We are like magnificently giant frogs landing on some earth, and we engage clumsily while people react as makes sense to them.

I don't have a problem with them being a group, a tribe or even a religious faction... (although I profess no religion now myself) but when they try to impose strict Islamic laws on their country in a hypocritical way. Like, worship our peaceful Allah America or we will kill you, well, it is time for them to run for the hills...

America was caught between the lesser of two evils when we propped up the Taliban. It was the USSR not the Taliban who had thousands of nukes pointed at us... Our alliance with the Taliban blew up in our face on 9/11 and now the Taliban is most likely the greater of two evils.

The USSR has nearly disintegrated and become democratized to some extent and the Taliban has radicalized even more than they used to be.

It is their unconventional war tactics that I oppose to being detailed in this video game. This video game is perhaps the best recruiting tool ever devised to draw the unsuspecting to their ranks... Will a naive generation accept the Taliban because they like the fighting style employed in this game not understanding that they are losing their freedom and spirit in the same process to an ideology of terror masked by the flashy graphics engine and the well balanced AI?

It was either let Russia take over Afghanistan and assert even more rule and influence in the region or prop up the Taliban...

Propping up the Taliban was the only sane option at the time. Who was a fortune teller to know that the Taliban would later come back and ally with Bin Laden and attack us?

You are the one telling me what video games I should and shouldn't buy. Do you really not see the irony here?

I like the freedom I have here in the US of A to buy whatever video game I want whether you, or the Taliban, like it or not.

Some things cross the line when it come to rights versus what is right. Like your apparent love for the Taliban.. Are you gonna stone woman accused of adultery in the game?

There is a difference between reality and entertainment. Reading a book about torture doesn't make me a torturer. Watching a movie about homosexual cowboys doesn't make me a cowboy. And playing a video game about shooting people doesn't make me shoot people.

This is from one of my favorite movies which was banned because some people found it offensive and said it crossed the line.

I think that banning books, or movies or video games is a very bad idea.

I don't find this particular clip crosses the line

I did not say ban them I said boycott them... Is that a bad idea?

Yes this video is funny, one of my favorite Monty Python clips and I have a terrible sense of humor. Usually I don't laugh at most comedy and I especially detest laugh tracks.

Boycott not ban. I will NOT be buying this game and maybe I will boycott EA games altogether. I have Starcraft 2 and I don't have to insult the US military every time I play it and I don't have to support a game company that is not meeting my needs as a "loyal" US citizen and a gamer.

I don't need games that make negative political statements.

Making a game that sets the Taliban as equals in a video game battle may not make you gay... but it emboldens the enemy and attempts to break the spirit of our military. They need support at home not this political propaganda crap.

Now this is the kind of stupid **** that leads people to despise conservatives as a pack of canting idiots. The fact that i am able to recognize that there are people who support the Taliban, and believe in them is in no way evidence that i personally approve of their agenda, their methods or their activities.

Do us all a favor, Rex, and especially yourself, and grow a brain. This is completely straw man bullshit.

I love this silliness as to ban this game would mean that we need to ban such games that allow you to fight on the side of the German army in WW2 for example.

Mindless bullshit.

Set this Afghan war is the liberals war. Our commander and chief was most liberal member of the senate remember? So call me a conservative because I support Obama... We have a liberal majority too running our government. Or did you forget that? So it is ok to have a war but not ok to support it, I see...

There were people who believed in Hitler too and had Hitler had his way maybe you wouldn't have been born. Just a bit more supporters for Hitler, maybe, a video game legitimizing his cause... and the perception change might have helped Hitler exterminate all Jews...

Straw man? Perhaps EA games should create a video game propping up the Taliban and Al Qaeda against Israel... Are you all for that?

These blasted A2K trolls.

The Germans today are trying to put that ugliness behind them... Do you think games that allow people to legitimize Hitler is good for Germany and the world as a whole? We have a widespread antisemitism problem in Europe as it is, shall we legitimize that now too?

@RexRed,
This is incredible stupidity. Bush was the President when we went to war. You just get worse and worse. Nothing i wrote even remotely suggested that one should or should not support this war--i was mute on that topic.

You're the ******* troll, asshole. You're the one who is accusing me of scurrilous beliefs without a shred of evidence. You're ******* psychotic, Rex.
