How do you post a link and use your own words.

I didn't learn this at my computer class and I've tried googling it but to no avail. I know how to post a link by copying and pasting but how do you rename a link with your own words and it stays a link. I'd sure appreciate it if someone took time out to explain it to me. Thanks.

@Caroline,
the only place I know how to do it is here, but I suspect the general principle is the same

grab the link

i.e. the link to your post

http://able2know.org/topic/159747-1#post-4309518

use the appropriate url code

[url][/url]

put = inside with the url

url=

put your link behind the url=

url=http://able2know.org/topic/159747-1#post-4309518

put the title you want between the [url][/url]

[url]Caroline's post[/url]

when you put all of that together

Caroline's post

that ^ should be a live link back to the first post

(if you "quote" my post you should be able to see the mashup)

@ehBeth,

hovering over the URL button in the BBCode Editor gives you the formatting structure --

If you use Firefox, either BBCodeXtra or TinyURL addon will make this easy, but quite frankly, I always prefer to see the actual URL in a post before I click on it.

@jgweed,
With Firefox, if you hover the cursor over the formatted link, the url appears at the bottom of your screen (so you can see what it is before you click on it).

@Caroline,
by renaming the link, you can send someone to a site they might not normally go, porn or worse, most folks do this to their friends as a joke at least once in their internet lives

you might send the link www.fatnakedgrandmothers.com to someone disguised as Look at The Cute Kittens

it can be fun

edit: interesting, apparently (and thankfully) there is no fat naked grandmothers site, given the internet you'd think there would be

Well, the domain is available. Might be a steal on GoDaddy.

I love that the BBCode editor is available here.

It's handy to know how (at a basic level) it works, just in case you HAVE to post at a less-developed forum Cool
