this one isn't African, but it's deeper in body

I was thinking you could kind of 'invert' the wire art ones. use the solid outline - and then cut in where they have the wire. the silhouette, no less!

she's not actually African, but she might be. Get rid of the plants behind her.

In my silhouette search, I found this rawther nice rendering of Gus ...

http://www.fbi.gov/hq/cid/arttheft/northamerica/us/paintprint/smith/smith.jpg

Interestingly,
Quote:
A painting by Gary Ernest Smith was discovered stolen ... from a household goods shipment after traveling from Florida to Illinois.
and suddenly Gus has to leave?

Co-incidence?

Gus, I have done some silhouette work before. What I do is find a picture and blacken it in. presto instant shadow and it is usually something pretty unique.http://www.bbc.co.uk/health/talking/images/black_woman.jpghttp://sc.groups.msn.com/tn/9A/10/TheRavensRealm/f0/1bff.jpg
You can blacken the image with either a marker or use photoshop ect.
Hope this gives you some good ideas, Ceili

this is very interesting. I don't think that I have seen you post a 'serious' type post since i've been on a2k - and I'm impressed at this type of creativity.

Gus, I guess that's why.....

Could you isolate some of these images?

Too 3-d?

Too delicate?

So, do you want sub-saharan, all africa, or just basic primitive images?

I like this image, but I have no idea if it could work for you.

I took this photo in Namibia, but I'm not sure it will download to a2k.

Right click the photo and Save on your computer. You can then enlarge it to any size you want.

I'm so waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Like, elaborate set-up for some way weird pic that he'll post.

But maybe all of you nice helpful people have cowed him into staying serious.

Maybe he really WAS serious from the outset. Who knows.

Cool stuff found so far. Ceili, I really like both the pic and the silhouette you posted.

Ceili has the right ideas with this...

http://sc.groups.msn.com/tn/9A/10/TheRavensRealm/f0/1bff.jpg

Some of the other images wouldn't work as silhouettes because, for example, if you have an arm crossing into the body's surface, such as in this one....

http://members.aol.com/focus4us/dancetroupe.jpg

then the arms would disappear and it would look a bit funky. It would work ok if you cut the outline and then paint the figures, which I might do with particular design because I like the way it looks.

This one by Beth might work quite well...

http://www.africa-design.co.za/graphics/zandi_tandi_05.jpg

It has nice simple lines and should stand on its own, but again, if it doesn't it would be quite simple to paint it.

I'll continue looking. When I find the exact image I'm looking for, I'll post it.

(maybe I'll have to toss in some weird stuff just to keep Sozobe guessing)

maybe try some of these

they're kinda large but....that's really not a big thing (no pun intended) if you have an editing program even as simple as paintbrush.

Well, 'silhouettes' is clearly of French derivation. I might suggest searching Gabon, Middle Congo (now the Republic of the Congo), Oubangui-Chari (or Ubangi-Shari, now the Central African Republic) and Chad.
