Bush and Iraq: Mass Media, Mass Ignorance

by Jeff Cohen
Quote:

The president's secret Thanksgiving trip to Iraq prompted predictable gushing from major media. As we head toward a presidential election, mainstream media and their pundits are telling us Bush will be difficult to beat. What mass media don't discuss much is their own role in public opinion and public ignorance, two measures that run hand in hand. That half or more Americans think Iraq was involved in the 9/11 attack -- perhaps the most media-covered event in our history -- stands as a horrific indictment of U.S. media today. Such levels of ignorance can't be found in other countries.

Look at who's controlling the media, and ask yourself who would best serve them as president. That should explain most of it.

I have really been concerned about the quick polarization of opinion that had been adopted by the right. You are either a right thinking true American or , you are a treasonous scum. This is unashamedly a standard for everyone including the "state Television " (FOX) , or the Rush Wannabees.
Fortunately, I get most of my news from the other fake news service "The Daily SHow"

I wonder whatever happened to AnnCoulter? They havent been dragging her
misinformant mouth out for a number of weeks now.

i think it's more of an indictment of the US culture in general. the american public doesn't care about foreign affairs. we just wanna see that britney spears and madonna kiss again. cnn mearly complies with our wishes. if you want international news you can watch the bbc. international news is unamerican. our president needs us to be totally ignorant of foreign affairs. it's our patriotic duty.

Maybe the Media is wrong.
Maybe more Americans would like real news and more of it. Maybe the Media just feeds the pablum because the think that's what the babies want. Maybe the Media likes to play it safe and not ruffle the feathers of people in power. Maybe things are not so clear cut?
