With the wide ranging membership we have here, many of us are probably curious about how our friends in other countries celebrate the holidays. I put together a collection of links for us to explore and learn. Please feel free to add to the list.

Boxing day is a good holiday. You've gotten through Xmas for another year, and the Sydney to Hobart yacht race, and Melbourne cricket test match always start on that day.

Re Chanukah - we play the dreidel game slightly differently. When you get a nun, you get none. When you get a hey, you get half the pot. When you roll a gimel, you get the whole pot. But when you roll a shin (this is different from what the site says), we share the pot with everyone, and it goes to zero. This makes the games last longer as, if you're losing desperately, you can get partly back in the game if someone else rolls a shin.

This is also, heh, easier for us to remember, as the actions correspond to the Hebrew letters:
nun = none
shin = share
hey = half
gimel = get all

Otherwise, 100% accurate and I may try the donuts recipe. Thanks! :-D

Found an Aussie Christmas Carol....can't find anyone on Amazon singing it... Sad Anyone have a reference for an artist that sings it?

Down Under Santa Gets A Suntan

Down under Santa gets a suntan
There's no snow at Christmas
in the south pacific summer time,
The only white that's ever seen is cricket on the bowling green.

There's no snow at Christmas
in the south pacific summer time,
The days are warm
and barbecues a light.

Chorus:

'Cause down under Santa gets a suntan,
Rudolf puts his cream on his nose,
Down under santa gets a suntan,
It's off to the beach, throw off your clothes.

There's no snow at Christmas
in the south pacific summer time,
Friends come round, turn up the sound,
dancing through the night.

Chorus:

'Cause down under Santa gets a suntan,
Rudolf puts his cream on his nose,
Down under santa gets a suntan,
It's off to the beach, throw off your clothes

We don't mind tradition,
and now we've got our own,
You still see the Christmas tree
twinkling in our homes.

You'll hear Christmas songs about
sleigh rides in the snow,
but Christmas time down under
is different cause you know...

There's no snow at Christmas
in the south pacific summer time,
Christmas spirit in the sun
south pacific summertime.

Chorus:

'Cause down under Santa gets a suntan,
Rudolf puts his cream on his nose,
Down under santa gets a suntan,
It's off to the beach, throw off your clothes
