@NotHereForLong,
I found this five myths about Obama article on a political blog as well. Here's what Ben Smith had to say about it on his political blog.
"Alex Conant, the former RNC press secretary who, as Mike Allen noted, has probably spent more time watching Obama speak than anyone outside the traveling campaign staff, pens a POLITICO op-ed today listing what he sees as the five biggest myths about the candidate.
The piece is interesting in part because it represents a minority view among Republicans, who seem to be settling in to a view of Obama as an overreaching, silver-tongued super-liberal and coddled by an adoring media. Conant's analysis, which departs from the talking points, is a sort of reality check for Obama's critics.
The whole piece is smart, and worth a read. Anybody who spent the last two years covering Obama had to be struck, at times, by that caution; and the friction with the media is real as well. I think it's a bit early to judge the rivalries. And Conant may understate Obama's talent for communicating, but that skill isn't always at his disposal. In the summer of 2007, he regularly bored Iowa audiences; that fall, he regularly brought them to tears."
