Alan Keyes announces for President!

On Friday, Sept. 14, Alan Keyes filed a Statement of Candidacy (Form 2) with the Federal Election Commission--thus officially announcing as a Republican candidate for President of the United States.

Keyes told Janet Parshall, host of a nationally syndicated radio show, that he's "unmoved" by the lack of moral courage shown by the other candidates, among whom he sees no standout who articulates the "key kernel of truth that must, with courage, be presented to our people."

He added, "The one thing I've always been called to do is to raise the standard . . . of our allegiance to God and His authority that has been the foundation stone of our nation's life"--and he decried the lack of "forthright, clear, and clarion declaration" from the other candidates concerning this issue.

As a result, Keyes said, "We're putting together an effort that's not going to be like anything before, because it's going to be entirely based on citizen action. We're going to be challenging people to take a pledge for America's revival," and elevate them from spectators in the political arena to participants.

The former Reagan diplomat ran previously for president in 1996 and 2000. During the 1996 race, he was widely credited with forcing abortion to the center of public policy debate. In 2000, he was acknowledged by commentators at Fox News, MSNBC, and CNN as the winner of the Republican presidential primary debates. In that election, he continued his prior focus on America's moral crisis, and also made abolishing the income tax a serious question for policy-makers.

This election cycle, Keyes has already significantly influenced the debate, according to some observers, who note that at least a few of the GOP candidates appear intent on imitating some of Keyes' well-known positions, in an effort to woo moral conservatives--without which no Republican is likely to win in the general election.

As a prelude to running, prior to making up his mind to announce, Keyes has been writing a series of essays on the 2008 election titled "The Crisis of the Republic"--published at RenewAmerica and disseminated by several other outlets. A common theme of the articles is the need to restore personal sovereignty that is based in religious premises and self-discipline, if American society is to survive in liberty.

Keyes said he plans to join the Values Voter Presidential Debate Sept. 17 in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.

Alan Keyes for President 2008

From media pundit Rod 2.0 Beta Website:

"More problems for the Republican National Committee and state party chairs. As the Republican "brand" continues to lose its value—donations, popularity, traction—among voters, another disruption has been introduced into to the 2008 election cycle: Alan Keyes has announced he will once again run for president.

The social conservative, anti-gay black Republican ran for president in 1996 and 2000. He also ran unsuccessfully for Senate from his home state of Maryland, and, as the GOP's affirmative action candidate against Barack Obama in Illinois in 2004. Keyes says he is running for president because he is"unmoved" by the "lack of moral courage" shown by the current Republican presidential field. Keyes will participate in tonight's "Values Voters" debate in Florida and is expected he will compete for the same social conservative base as Sam Brownback, Mike Huckabee and Fred Thompson.

Keyes has become infamous or his anti-gay rants, once calling gays "selfish hedonis[ts]." In 2004, his daughter Maya Marcel-Keyes came out as lesbian. Alan Keyes stopped speaking to his daughter and refused to continue paying for her college education because she is gay."

Commentary:

Rod, you left out anti-black as well, this is one man who really does needs prayer and an exorcism for all the hate he has under the guise of being a conservative, whatever that is.

Posted by: Antwan | 17 September 2007 at 18:04

It's amazing that the blacks who benefit the most from Republican affirmative action are the most critical of those programs for the general population.

Posted by: tony d.. | 17 September 2007 at 18:18

Ugh, is he serious!?!?! His daughter is having problems with finances which are keeping her from a degree from Brown but he thinks he should be president!? HSD...

Excuse me while I play my laugh track.

Posted by: j. brotherlove | 17 September 2007 at 22:23

The Republicans talk about FAMILY VALUES...and this dude turned his own daughter out of his house when she announced she was a lesbian. Why does he even have a platform to speak from...Damn I almost forgot...this is the same country that elected George Bush!

tony d., you hit the nail on the head.

It's all about that oh-so-American attitude, "I made mine, and I'm keepin' every penny. You go f**kin' figure out how to make yours."

(Of course, in reality, the word "made" in the sentence above should be read as "scammed".)

Oh GOD!!! This idiot's going to run AGAIN?! I'm not surprised. Keyes is among the most delusional practitioners of Right-wingism I've ever observed!

Personally, I'm pleased as punch...as if the Repubs didn't already have an "uphill battle"...now they have another buffoon to deal with. I can see the eyes rolling, from here. ROTFLMAO.

@aaronssongs,
This is excellent news. The more divided the social conservatives are, the better for sensible candidates like Ron Paul.

@aaronssongs,
I find him a man of truth and honor. Maybe I shall register. As he brings what I haven't seen in any of those running yet. Fresh ideas and a logical mind.
I don't know about Ron Paul so I exclude him.

Precisely...as if he stood a snowball's chance......
People ought to wake up...he is a Third Party Candidate, neither Repub nor Dem....somewhere in the middle...and in this day and age of "polarization", there is no way substantial numbers are going to vote him into office, especially with him running as some kind of crazy Repub. Pipe dreams.

@aaronssongs,
Alan Keyes is a joke.

When he ran against Obama for the Illinois Senate position he SOUNDLY got his ass whipped coming up with LESS THAN 12% of the vote.

****, I could have done better.

Because I'd suffer McCain, Hunter, Huckabee, Thompson, Romney, Paul, Tancredo, Giuliani, And Brownback, in that order before I'd suffer Keyes.
He is the bottom of the barrel, literally.
