Small town parades must be the same all over the world.

Mind you we've never had fetuses!

A pipe band (Bagpipes, playing scotland the brave) fire trucks, pony club, the local tractor dealership, vintage/veteren car club, elderly citizens group high school band etc etc etc.

The countdown now is Thanksgiving. It and Christmas are so very close in theme for me, I almost link them into one superholiday. My youngest daughter was given the greatest turkey ever by her bosses and I am pretty certain most of the immediate members will be there. My son lives in Pasadena (TX) and may not make it. He is in the middle of some family matters (not the sort that threatens a relationship or monetary well being) and may not be there. It is possible to count one's blessings and share the love and cameraderie and still hold the same sort of belief as mine.

a sad little santa
sat on the curb
he mourned the banner
do not disturb

strung on cynical hearts
lashed to trees for storms
embossed on enemas
tums literary forms

the sad little santa
began to sing
in voice of eddie cantor
sinatra elvistheking

peace on earth
all who believe
i love your worth
who disbelieve

Edgar, as you know--I boast it every holiday season--my wife and I enjoy the Season by ignoring it. While others are stressing themselves out shopping, wrapping, making lists, comparing gifts given and received(whatever), we honor our nervous systems by going to our get-a-way out of town and living up to our deserved reputations as grenches. It's not that we do not give gifts, but we do so when we feel like it, not in compliance with commercially-inspired custom.
Happy Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas Twisted Evil

They just get to feel their way around.

JLN, hoping your holiday is not full of whatever you wish it not to contain.

Whew, an UnHoliday greeting is harder than the real thing.

The chance of feeling the wrong gender would be too risky, unless you're "playing" the blind part.!

My regular helper decided to be off Wednesday, claiming he informed us two weeks ago. Whether he did or not, I have had this time off planned for two or three months. His action caused me to volunteer to come back from vacation that one day. Fortunately, our capable temporary guy stepped up and accepted the duty. He is a fine fellow, if he is Canadian. Owns a house there. Very capable. He has held my level of job in the past. Since he acts as a hunter's guide, takes long fishing trips and the like, he won't tie himself to a certain place too long. His wife has just graduated. Don't recall if she's a lawyer or what. All I can say, his time is moving along. He's twenty nine years old. He could sign on here and take my job in less than two years. He told me in a conversation he did not expect at this time of life to be doing this sort of work. Neither did I, was my response.

My son in law asked Mrs edgarblythe how I manage to get my turkeys to look the way they do. He he. All I do is put it n a baking bag, inside one of the blue porcelain cookers and cook it, opening the bag toward the end to allow for some browning.

I can see that for beef and pork, but I like to spice up my fowl and fish--not that they do not have their own wonderful flavors. How would you like to have a meal cooked by Osso? Now that's spice heaven, I'm sure.

When another person does the cooking, I am generally delighted with the results. There is nothing wrong with spices, if one prefers that.

if one prefers that? I can say the same thing about oxygen: it's good if that's what you prefer.

To me, plain meat is best.

When I eat a salad, I rarely put oil, vinegar or dressing on top. Why spoil a good thing?
