@klyph,
Aside from the complete and utter breach of so many rights, this a complete waste of time money and resources on behalf of the government. What good does it do them to mindlessly screen e-mails and phone calls from your grandmother? I guess working on real leads has not been that successful so justs taking shots in the dark will yield much better results.

That's why they're not doing that -- it would be, as you said, a waste of time. The Government is hunting terrorists -- you know, like the ones who did 911?

@klyph,
I am sorry but recording every conversation and e-mail passing throuhg AT&T is a waste. What are those new things called, they look like cell phones only bigger? Oh yeah satilite phones... I am sure that every Sleeper Cell over here signs up with Comcast because they get the internet, phone and late night softcore porn! All for one simple low price. They have had Carnivore in place long before 9.11 how much good did it do?

They've intercepted terrorist cellphone calls, I believe. Dunno for sure. But the bottom line is that nobody gives a crap about you or me. That's right. We're not the threat, they know it, and therefore don't pay us any attention. THEY'RE NOT AFTER US, BUT TERRORISTS. Got it? DO YOU UNDERSTAND?????????????????:wtf::wtf::wtf::wtf:

@klyph,
Yes they are targeting us, they are targeting you, me, your loved ones. They could be flagging you so you can no longer fly, get a credit card, apply for a lone or full fill your life dream of becoming a taxi driver or airline pilot. If we are okay with them checking our e-mail and listening to our phone calls then we may as well take our front doors off like we are all 15 year olds that got caught smoking pot in our rooms.

exactly my point. You DON'T know!

legally under the patriot act they can spy on us wire tap our phones and enter our houses without warrants, with just a suspicion that we MIGHT be terrorsits, no evidence needed....the government will surely abuse this power!

Well in that case I'm sure you'd be happy to give up your guns... I mean, it's all in the name of fighting terrorists... you know, the ones who pulled off 9/11.

Let nothing stand in the way of fighting terror! So, when can we pick those weapons up?

Where do I drop them off? Sabz raises a great point though in all seriousness. A point not many think about. You give away ONE right and you know what happens? They break out a pen and paper and draft up a new constitution and bill of rights. Why? Because they know they can take the rest all they have to do is turbo charge the fear engine and they are set.

You can have my bullets, one at a time. But they say you don't see it coming. After i've spent all the ammo then i'll think about letting you take the gun, bayonet first.

@klyph,
Well due to our current track record chances are when they come for the rest of our rights the general populace is going to give in. Just like they have given in on every other right they have breached or put restrictions/exceptions on.

So you are willing to defend the 2nd amendment without question.

Why not the others?

Oh, and remember... if you fight back, you're obviously a terrorist. And those guys who want your guns have bigger guns and more bullets than you.

I don't get it...

They say they will secretly monitor phone calls in the name of fighting terror, and you don't care. Remember 9/11!

They say they will track your purchases and travels in the name of fighting terror, and you don't care. Remember 9/11!

They set up secret prisons, secret courts, use questionable tactics, all in the name of fighting terror, and you don't care. Remember 9/11!

They try to take your guns, in the name of fighting terror, and you do--whoa, wait, HELL NO! ONE BULLET AT A TIME. NOBODY TAKES MY GUNS FOR ANY REASON. I DON'T CARE ABOUT NO TERROR, GIMME MY GUNS!

I don't get it. The Constitution is a bit more than "Right to keep and bear arms."

I have been repeating these things over and over to those that want to give away any right. It is nice to see someone else shares the same view point. This is not about one right, none of it is. I didn't join the NRA because I wanted to defend only the 2nd. I joined the NRA because they believe in the constitution and if my 30 bucks a year goes towards defending and preserving just one of those rights then by all means take my 30 dollars. Most people are being way to narrow in there views on these issues, it is not about the 4th or 2nd or 1st. It is about all of it as one unbreakable piece.

Exactly.

I'm in favor of LIMITED gun control (i.e. registration), but you have the Constitutional RIGHT to own those weapons. There's nothing I can or will do to take those away.

Most of my fellow liberals will argue that the founding fathers didn't imagine assault weapons and "pocket howitzers" when they wrote that. Well, no... they didn't. But they also didn't imagine telephones, radio, the internet and global telecommunications when they wrote the first amendment, either.

Conservatives who call for censoring media (Dems do this too!), monitoring communications and the like is just the same as saying what gun you can and cannot own and tracking your purchases and usage of your guns.

C'mon guys... does it make sense now? You cannot favor one and oppose the other. It's all violating the same document!
