Obama to unethically expand Executive Power

This is of particular interest to me because one of the chief criticisms of Bush was his unethical, possibly illegal (if you ask your local ultra leftist) expansion of the Executive branch.

So Obama is changing all this right? Well hold on now...

The Associated Press: Political fight brewing on census

The census bureau has never been under the eye of the President. The purpose of these censuses are to redraw district maps between elections to adjust for population, etc. In the hands of someone who has a stake in the election, this process could be used to redraw the maps in one parties favor.

Example

Let's say you have two districts which are connected east-west . One district went Republican by a slim margin last year, let's say 52% to 48%. The other district, to the east, is strongly Democratic, 65% to 35% in the last election. There are a fair amount of registered Democrats right on the western border of the "blue district". The solution, if you want to turn both districts blue, is just to redraw the line on the map, moving enough of those Democrats into the "red district" so that in the next election you can carry both districts.

Do you really think ANY career politician will purposefully make a decision in redrawing maps they know will hurt their chances for reelection? Me neither...

This expansion of executive power gives Obama the opportunity to do just that, redrawing the lines just in time for his 2012 reelection campaign.

Hey lefties, isn't this the kind of thing you guys absolutely hated about Bush? Abuse of power comes to mind.

@Silverchild79,
And how would this even be an issue of ethics?

@Silverchild79,
allowing an elected offical oversight into redrawing district maps is like giving a fox the key to a hen house.

My example could also be used for the house of representatives. if one party narrowly wins one district, and another party (the part of the person in control) wins a land slide in the other, you can redraw the map so that in the next election your party will with both districts, picking up an additional seat in the house without actually generating anymore votes.

does that clear it up for you?

@Silverchild79,
It's what the Texas GOP likes to do, Fatal. That's how they can point it out so quickly.

@Silverchild79,
great so we agree, Obama's decision to oversee the census is essentially Gerrymandering, is an unlawful expansion of the executive branch, a conflict of interest, and an ethics violation.

And this magically becomes a problem after so many times being ignored... why?

Never did I say that it was gerrymandering. That's redistricting for partisan political purposes... something you have yet to show evidence of. What you're saying is similar to "He bought a gun, so that means he will kill somebody."

You hang a lot on the word "could".

Then why put himself in the position of "could?" What are his objectives? What are his motives? Why would he consider this?

It's called gerrymandering and this has been going on since 1812 and continues with both parties, why do you act as if this is something new?

This can be utilized elsewhere.

Why did W put himself in the position to deploy troops within the US (against the Posse Comitatus Act... which, funny enough, he did)?

Why did W put himself in the position to wiretap American citizens without warrant or probable cause (which, funny enough, he did)?

Why did W put himself in the position to suspend HC for American citizens?

Why have you and your family put yourself in a position to murder innocents by buying guns? What is your objective? Why would you consider this?

See? You hinge a lot on "could", too.
