US congress, a culture of thinking big and accomplishing small

I was thinking about the death of the immigration bill and it reminded me allot of the death of social security reform.

Congress like BIG legislation. Big complex bills which are hard to read, earmarked with countless pork spending, all wrapped up in a ball which is beneficial to everybody.

But that's the trick of it, it's so full of crap that when they vote on the finished project nobody wants it, so it dies.

Can't we handle border security, English as a national language, & how to deal with illegals with smaller bills. Bills which are more translucent to the taxpayer where so much pork can't be hidden?

in 2008, re-elect nobody!

@Silverchild79,
We don't need anymore bills or laws passed to deal with immigration, we need to step up and enforce the laws we already have.

Congress doesn't run America right now. The country is committed to a course it can't change. A zillion 'bills' could be concocted and bandied about........nothing will change for a long, long time. We are trapped in an era of protracted, escalating, costly warfare. Our entire way of life is at stake.:dunno:

I can't count how many times I have expressed the very same thought here and elsewhere. What's so difficult that our government can't simply enforce existing law?
Perhaps it is because there are too many lawyers in government?

Nah....it's complicated. It goes like this (and I say this without any racism in my heart; please believe me): America's Hispanic population is growing so fast, and is already so big, any politician who values his career cannot afford to alienate it. The Hispanic population, on an emotional level, cannot bring itself to close our borders with Mexico. Our attempts to do so anger the Hispanic population, which feels as though its 'people' (e.g., Latin American immigrants) are being racially discriminated against by not being allowed into our country. Well, politicians therefore know they can't really crack down on the immigration problem. As long as they don't crack down, the more immigrants come across, the larger the Hispanic population in the U.S. becomes, and the less likely politicians, who need its votes, become to ever cracking down. It's a vicious circle, and it will culminate in the nearly complete Hispanicization of American society by the end of this century. Here's one tiny morcel of food for thought: who actually polices our borders? Hispanic-American border patrolmen. They're the majority of the workforce because of their language ability. Now, how tenacious do you think they are, really, about catching and sending back to Mexico, their racial and cultural brothers and sisters, with children? Think about it.

@Silverchild79,
PS:

There is no political force anywhere in the U.S. that can stop this phenomenon -- not Congress, the President, cops, the military. Nobody and nothing. Period. But there is good news. Latin America is Christian, and might actually help save the world. The US can't rely on its old ally, Europe, for anything. It has succumbed to atheism, liberalism and is slowly crumbling under Islamic pressure. Latin Americans won't tolerate fanatical Islam in their lands. They'd smash it, in a heartbeat, because they're not at all apologetic about being Catholic. That's a good thing. Trust me. In fact, I like to see Anglos and Hispanics marry and have a lot of kids. That's a good mix, in as much as it could manifest itself in a wonderful fusion of the Protestant work ethic and Hispanic, Catholic fanaticism.

@Silverchild79,
White guilt

I hate the whole notion of that. I am not guilty of anything. My entire life has been dedicated to personal gains for hard work, period. I am not racist nor am I bigoted towards any minority group, be they homosexual, asian, native indian, women, buddhists, hindus or muslims (well, maybe I look harder at muslims lately, but that has more to do with current events than anything). I have done more than my share to help everyone without regard to color or national origin THAT IS INTERESTED IN HELPING THEMSELVES THROUGH ME.

I will not apologize to anyone for living comfortably with money in the bank that I earned. In my view, white guilt is a product of radical minority leaders forcing their agendas on the weakest of our elected leaders, much like my badgering first wife used to do on me. They continue to beat you down until you finally say "OKOKOK, I'll give you what you want if you just SHUT UP."

White guilt is no more than giving up without a fight by a bunch of weak, will-less cowards. They are not progressive as they proclaim, they are cowards with no conviction. I say if you want it earn it. Don't expect me to hand it over without a fight.

@Silverchild79,
PS Congress and the senate are worthless. I agree with Silverchild - about throwing the bastards out in '08, but, as we all know, everything with them is about compromise. Give a lot to gain a little.

Don't forget the fact the White race is slowly becoming extinct. It isn't reproducing fast enough to keep up. In fact, it's falling way behind. There's no way to reverse this process, either. :Pickle:

@Silverchild79,
It could be worse. Europe is being Islamicized. I'll take Latin American culture any day over Islam, big time. What Europe doesn't understand is that its Christian unity in times past enabled it to defeat its Islamic attackers. Today it's largely unChristian. On what basis will it therefore be able to withstand Islamic assault? Liberalism can't defeat Islam, a religion and culture that thrive on violence, primitive mythologies, and the mass mobilization of the ignorant.

Thanks for that - but, as it turns out, I am rather embarrassed to say, I said "yes" to more skanks in my divorced years than Bill Clinton ever dreamed of.

Come to think of it, that might actually help with the libs.

From Acapulco to Albany, if they were agreeable, I was their man. Never went out without a raincoat, though....
