@Silverchild79,
They won on the immigration issue. They don't care, for the moment, about anything else.

@Silverchild79,
hmm, the far right immigration solution was improbable at best. The general views of the country (and the rational view) is that we could start tomorrow and we'd never find all the illegals. It would be another constant battle.

So long as we win in Iraq and that damn fence goes up along the southern border I'm happy. America will join other countries like the Roman Empire and China who have built great fences to keep people out, and if the track record is any indication, to a great success.

@Silverchild79,
The give and take of politics at work. Just seems that neither side wishes to compromise at all.

@Silverchild79,
Great day for Real Americans. It wasn't covered much in the media but they has test votes in Congress for full withdrawel of funding for Iraq. Didn't come anywhere near what they needed. Which would be sixty for a potential filibuster or presidential veto. The Dems will not be awarded reliving Vietnam just yet. Funny how they thrive on creating such turmoil?

On Immigration. My guess is not more then two million will take advantage of the Z visa. The problem there gonna have is them not wanting to return to there home country and reapply, IMO this is the key. I'm torn on this issue.

@Silverchild79,
I like the fact that we'll secure the border and that if you break the law you go back, all they have to do is enforce it to the letter. I hope they do.

@Silverchild79,
That's good, we can't rush the war if more needs to be done.

I don't like the immigration bill, but that's really not something I care about too much. That may be the general view, I don't know, but it seems that most people want them out anyway. And a fence won't work good enough, we need a high wall that's not so easy to break through or climb over.

@Silverchild79,
Fences and walls won't work. America is already too Hispanicized for that. Like it or not, in fifty years, the U.S. will be a largely Hispanic country. The question is whether or not it will remain a world power at that point.

@Silverchild79,
If not, just split it up becaue there will be places that can become a new country and a major world power and not be immersed in new immigrants and poverty.

@Silverchild79,
True, but I don't think it'll happen that way. It's a process of protracted cultural conquest. A decent historical analogy is that of the crumbling Roman Empire. It absorbed barbarian peoples for a very long time, using different kinds of rationale to justify doing so. Eventually, this massive, unfettered migration contributed strongly to the fall of Rome. :no:

@Silverchild79,
It could work that way. You never know how loyal most of the illegals would be to America if they became citizens, like how the Germanic people in Rome were a helpful fifth column for invaders.

@Silverchild79,
Truly assimilated immigrants usually become good citizens and are patriotic to the adopted country, our mutual heritage proves that. If in the long run we become a more Hispanic nation, will that be so bad?
If politicians represent the citizens, we may become stronger thanks to the immigrants we have in the future. That has been the case in the past. We celebrate the commitment of many immigrant groups that have come here in large numbers.
The danger is in allowing third world attitudes and socialism to overrun our laws and mores.
